To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. | 1LORD, I seek refuge in you; let me never be disgraced. Save me by your righteousness. |
Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me. | 2Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly. Be a rock of refuge for me, a mountain fortress to save me. |
For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me. | 3For you are my rock and my fortress; you lead and guide me for your name's sake. |
Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength. | 4You will free me from the net that is secretly set for me, for you are my refuge. |
Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. | 5Into your hand I entrust my spirit; you have redeemed me, LORD, God of truth. |
I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD. | 6I hate those who are devoted to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD. |
I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; | 7I will rejoice and be glad in your faithful love because you have seen my affliction. You know the troubles of my soul |
And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room. | 8and have not handed me over to the enemy. You have set my feet in a spacious place. |
Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. | 9Be gracious to me, LORD, because I am in distress; my eyes are worn out from frustration--my whole being as well. |
For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed. | 10Indeed, my life is consumed with grief and my years with groaning; my strength has failed because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. |
I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me. | 11I am ridiculed by all my adversaries and even by my neighbors. I am dreaded by my acquaintances; those who see me in the street run from me. |
I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel. | 12I am forgotten: gone from memory like a dead person--like broken pottery. |
For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life. | 13I have heard the gossip of many; terror is on every side. When they conspired against me, they plotted to take my life. |
But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God. | 14But I trust in you, LORD; I say, "You are my God." |
My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me. | 15The course of my life is in your power; rescue me from the power of my enemies and from my persecutors. |
Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake. | 16Make your face shine on your servant; save me by your faithful love. |
Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. | 17LORD, do not let me be disgraced when I call on you. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them be quiet in Sheol. |
Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. | 18Let lying lips that arrogantly speak against the righteous in proud contempt be silenced. |
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! | 19How great is your goodness that you have stored up for those who fear you and accomplished in the sight of everyone for those who take refuge in you. |
Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. | 20You hide them in the protection of your presence; you conceal them in a shelter from human schemes, from quarrelsome tongues. |
Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city. | 21Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his faithful love to me in a city under siege. |
For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee. | 22In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight." But you heard the sound of my pleading when I cried to you for help. |
O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer. | 23Love the LORD, all his faithful ones. The LORD protects the loyal, but fully repays the arrogant. |
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD. | 24Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD. |
