| 1A Song of degrees. LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions: | 1A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured, |
| 2How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob; | 2and how he swore an oath to the LORD, making a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:" |
| 3Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; | 3I will not enter my house or get into my bed, |
| 4I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, | 4I will not allow my eyes to sleep or my eyelids to slumber |
| 5Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob. | 5until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." |
| 6Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood. | 6We heard of the ark in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. |
| 7We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool. | 7Let us go to His dwelling place; let us worship at His footstool. |
| 8Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength. | 8Rise up, LORD, come to Your resting place, You and Your powerful ark. |
| 9Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy. | 9May Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and may Your godly people shout for joy. |
| 10For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. | 10Because of Your servant David, do not reject Your anointed one. |
| 11The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. | 11The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise He will not abandon:" I will set one of your descendants on your throne. |
| 12If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. | 12If your sons keep My covenant and My decrees that I will teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever." |
| 13For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. | 13For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His home:" |
| 14This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. | 14This is My resting place forever; I will make My home here because I have desired it. |
| 15I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. | 15I will abundantly bless its food; I will satisfy its needy with bread. |
| 16I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. | 16I will clothe its priests with salvation, and its godly people will shout for joy. |
| 17There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. | 17There I will make a horn grow for David; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one. |
| 18His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish. | 18I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown he wears will be glorious." |
