A Song of degrees. LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions: | 1A Song of Ascents. Remember, O LORD, on David's behalf, All his affliction; |
How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob; | 2How he swore to the LORD And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, |
Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; | 3"Surely I will not enter my house, Nor lie on my bed; |
I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, | 4I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids, |
Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob. | 5Until I find a place for the LORD, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob." |
Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood. | 6Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah, We found it in the field of Jaar. |
We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool. | 7Let us go into His dwelling place; Let us worship at His footstool. |
Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength. | 8Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. |
Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy. | 9Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your godly ones sing for joy. |
For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. | 10For the sake of David Your servant, Do not turn away the face of Your anointed. |
The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. | 11The LORD has sworn to David A truth from which He will not turn back: "Of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne. |
If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. | 12"If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I will teach them, Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forever." |
For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. | 13For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation. |
This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. | 14"This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it. |
I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. | 15"I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her needy with bread. |
I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. | 16"Her priests also I will clothe with salvation, And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy. |
There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. | 17"There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for Mine anointed. |
His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish. | 18"His enemies I will clothe with shame, But upon himself his crown shall shine." |
