King James Bible | New Living Translation |
A Song of degrees. LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions: | 1LORD, remember David and all that he suffered. |
How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob; | 2He made a solemn promise to the LORD. He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel, |
Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; | 3“I will not go home; I will not let myself rest. |
I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, | 4I will not let my eyes sleep nor close my eyelids in slumber |
Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob. | 5until I find a place to build a house for the LORD, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.” |
Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood. | 6We heard that the Ark was in Ephrathah; then we found it in the distant countryside of Jaar. |
We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool. | 7Let us go to the sanctuary of the LORD; let us worship at the footstool of his throne. |
Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength. | 8Arise, O LORD, and enter your resting place, along with the Ark, the symbol of your power. |
Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy. | 9May your priests be clothed in godliness; may your loyal servants sing for joy. |
For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. | 10For the sake of your servant David, do not reject the king you have anointed. |
The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. | 11The LORD swore an oath to David with a promise he will never take back: “I will place one of your descendants on your throne. |
If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. | 12If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue forever and ever.” |
For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. | 13For the LORD has chosen Jerusalem ; he has desired it for his home. |
This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. | 14“This is my resting place forever,” he said. “I will live here, for this is the home I desired. |
I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. | 15I will bless this city and make it prosperous; I will satisfy its poor with food. |
I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. | 16I will clothe its priests with godliness; its faithful servants will sing for joy. |
There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. | 17Here I will increase the power of David; my anointed one will be a light for my people. |
His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish. | 18I will clothe his enemies with shame, but he will be a glorious king.” |
