| 1God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, | 1God, having spoken in former times in fragmentary and varied fashion to our forefathers by the prophets, |
| 2Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; | 2has in these last days spoken to us by a Son whom he appointed to be the heir of everything and through whom he also made the universe. |
| 3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; | 3He is the reflection of God's glory and the exact likeness of his being, and he holds everything together by his powerful word. After he had provided a cleansing from sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Highest Majesty |
| 4Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. | 4and became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is better than theirs. |
| 5For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? | 5For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son. Today I have become your Father"? Or again, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"? |
| 6And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. | 6And again, when he brings his firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him." |
| 7And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. | 7Now about the angels he says, "He makes his angels winds, and his servants flames of fire." |
| 8But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. | 8But about the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the scepter of your kingdom is a righteous scepter. |
| 9Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. | 9You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. That is why God, your God, anointed you rather than your companions with the oil of gladness." |
| 10And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: | 10And, "In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. |
| 11They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; | 11They will come to an end, but you will remain forever. They will all wear out like clothes. |
| 12And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. | 12You will roll them up like a robe, and they will be changed like clothes. But you remain the same, and your life will never end." |
| 13But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? | 13But to which of the angels did he ever say, "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet"? |
| 14Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? | 14All of them are spirits on a divine mission, sent to serve those who are about to inherit salvation, aren't they? |
