King James BibleNET Bible
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.1For the music director; a psalm of David. In you, O LORD, I have taken shelter! Never let me be humiliated! Vindicate me by rescuing me!
Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.2Listen to me! Quickly deliver me! Be my protector and refuge, a stronghold where I can be safe!
For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.3For you are my high ridge and my stronghold; for the sake of your own reputation you lead me and guide me.
Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.4You will free me from the net they hid for me, for you are my place of refuge.
Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.5Into your hand I entrust my life; you will rescue me, O LORD, the faithful God.
I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.6I hate those who serve worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.
I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;7I will be happy and rejoice in your faithfulness, because you notice my pain and you are aware of how distressed I am.
And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.8You do not deliver me over to the power of the enemy; you enable me to stand in a wide open place.
Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.9Have mercy on me, for I am in distress! My eyes grow dim from suffering. I have lost my strength.
For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.10For my life nears its end in pain; my years draw to a close as I groan. My strength fails me because of my sin, and my bones become brittle.
I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.11Because of all my enemies, people disdain me; my neighbors are appalled by my suffering--those who know me are horrified by my condition; those who see me in the street run away from me.
I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.12I am forgotten, like a dead man no one thinks about; I am regarded as worthless, like a broken jar.
For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.13For I hear what so many are saying, the terrifying news that comes from every direction. When they plot together against me, they figure out how they can take my life.
But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.14But I trust in you, O LORD! I declare, "You are my God!"
My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.15You determine my destiny! Rescue me from the power of my enemies and those who chase me.
Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake.16Smile on your servant! Deliver me because of your faithfulness!
Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.17O LORD, do not let me be humiliated, for I call out to you! May evil men be humiliated! May they go wailing to the grave!
Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.18May lying lips be silenced--lips that speak defiantly against the innocent with arrogance and contempt!
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!19How great is your favor, which you store up for your loyal followers! In plain sight of everyone you bestow it on those who take shelter in you.
Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.20You hide them with you, where they are safe from the attacks of men; you conceal them in a shelter, where they are safe from slanderous attacks.
Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.21The LORD deserves praise for he demonstrated his amazing faithfulness to me when I was besieged by enemies.
For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.22I jumped to conclusions and said, "I am cut off from your presence!" But you heard my plea for mercy when I cried out to you for help.
O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.23Love the LORD, all you faithful followers of his! The LORD protects those who have integrity, but he pays back in full the one who acts arrogantly.
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.24Be strong and confident, all you who wait on the LORD!
