A Psalm of David, Maschil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. | 1By David; a well-written song. How blessed is the one whose rebellious acts are forgiven, whose sin is pardoned! |
Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. | 2How blessed is the one whose wrongdoing the LORD does not punish, in whose spirit there is no deceit. |
When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. | 3When I refused to confess my sin, my whole body wasted away, while I groaned in pain all day long. |
For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. | 4For day and night you tormented me; you tried to destroy me in the intense heat of summer. (Selah) |
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. | 5Then I confessed my sin; I no longer covered up my wrongdoing. I said, "I will confess my rebellious acts to the LORD." And then you forgave my sins. (Selah) |
For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. | 6For this reason every one of your faithful followers should pray to you while there is a window of opportunity. Certainly when the surging water rises, it will not reach them. |
Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. | 7You are my hiding place; you protect me from distress. You surround me with shouts of joy from those celebrating deliverance. (Selah) |
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. | 8I will instruct and teach you about how you should live. I will advise you as I look you in the eye. |
Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee. | 9Do not be like an unintelligent horse or mule, which will not obey you unless they are controlled by a bridle and bit. |
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about. | 10An evil person suffers much pain, but the LORD's faithfulness overwhelms the one who trusts in him. |
Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart. | 11Rejoice in the LORD and be happy, you who are godly! Shout for joy, all you who are morally upright! |
