To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. | 1For the music director, to be accompanied by wind instruments; a psalm of David. Listen to what I say, LORD! Carefully consider my complaint! |
Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. | 2Pay attention to my cry for help, my king and my God, for I am praying to you! |
My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. | 3LORD, in the morning you will hear me; in the morning I will present my case to you and then wait expectantly for an answer. |
For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. | 4Certainly you are not a God who approves of evil; evil people cannot dwell with you. |
The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. | 5Arrogant people cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who behave wickedly. |
Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man. | 6You destroy liars; the LORD despises violent and deceitful people. |
But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. | 7But as for me, because of your great faithfulness I will enter your house; I will bow down toward your holy temple as I worship you. |
Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. | 8LORD, lead me in your righteousness because of those who wait to ambush me, remove the obstacles in the way in which you are guiding me! |
For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue. | 9For they do not speak the truth; their stomachs are like the place of destruction, their throats like an open grave, their tongues like a steep slope leading into it. |
Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee. | 10Condemn them, O God! May their own schemes be their downfall! Drive them away because of their many acts of insurrection, for they have rebelled against you. |
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. | 11But may all who take shelter in you be happy! May they continually shout for joy! Shelter them so that those who are loyal to you may rejoice! |
For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield. | 12Certainly you reward the godly, LORD. Like a shield you protect them in your good favor. |
