Romans 5
KJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
King James BibleNew Living Translation
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:1Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.2Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;3We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.
And patience, experience; and experience, hope:4And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.5And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.6When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.7Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.8But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.9And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.10For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.
And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.11So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God. Adam and Christ Contrasted
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:12When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.
(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.13Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break.
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.14Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come.
But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.15But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.
And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.16And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins.
For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)17For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.18Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.19Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:20God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant.
That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.21So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
