Psalm 139
NASB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995English Standard Version
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. O LORD, You have searched me and known me.1O LORD, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar.2You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.
You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.3You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, You know it all.4Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.
You have enclosed me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.5You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it.6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?7Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.8If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,9If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.10even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,"11If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,”
Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.12even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.
For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb.13For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.14I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;15My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.16Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them!17How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.18If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.
O that You would slay the wicked, O God; Depart from me, therefore, men of bloodshed.19Oh that you would slay the wicked, O God! O men of blood, depart from me!
For they speak against You wickedly, And Your enemies take Your name in vain.20They speak against you with malicious intent; your enemies take your name in vain.
Do I not hate those who hate You, O LORD? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?21Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
I hate them with the utmost hatred; They have become my enemies.22I hate them with complete hatred; I count them my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts;23Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.24And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
