Psalm 139
NASB Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995New International Version
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. O LORD, You have searched me and known me.1For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. You have searched me, LORD, and you know me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar.2You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.3You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, You know it all.4Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely.
You have enclosed me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.5You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it.6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?7Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.8If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,9If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.10even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,"11If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"
Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.12even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb.13For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;15My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.16Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them!17How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.18Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand-- when I awake, I am still with you.
O that You would slay the wicked, O God; Depart from me, therefore, men of bloodshed.19If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
For they speak against You wickedly, And Your enemies take Your name in vain.20They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
Do I not hate those who hate You, O LORD? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?21Do I not hate those who hate you, LORD, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
I hate them with the utmost hatred; They have become my enemies.22I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts;23Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.24See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
