| 1For the choir director. A Psalm of David. O LORD, You have searched me and known me. | 1For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. |
| 2You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. | 2You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. |
| 3You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways. | 3You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. |
| 4Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, You know it all. | 4Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. |
| 5You have enclosed me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. | 5You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. |
| 6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it. | 6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. |

| 12Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You. | 12even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. |
| 13For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. | 13For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. |

| 16Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them. | 16Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. |
| 17How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! | 17How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! |
| 18If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You. | 18Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand-- when I awake, I am still with you. |
| 19O that You would slay the wicked, O God; Depart from me, therefore, men of bloodshed. | 19If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty! |
| 20For they speak against You wickedly, And Your enemies take Your name in vain. | 20They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. |
| 21Do I not hate those who hate You, O LORD? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You? | 21Do I not hate those who hate you, LORD, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you? |
| 22I hate them with the utmost hatred; They have become my enemies. | 22I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. |
| 23Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; | 23Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. |
| 24And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way. | 24See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. |
