Psalm 74
NASB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995English Standard Version
A Maskil of Asaph. O God, why have You rejected us forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?1O God, why do you cast us off forever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?
Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old, Which You have redeemed to be the tribe of Your inheritance; And this Mount Zion, where You have dwelt.2Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old, which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage! Remember Mount Zion, where you have dwelt.
Turn Your footsteps toward the perpetual ruins; The enemy has damaged everything within the sanctuary.3Direct your steps to the perpetual ruins; the enemy has destroyed everything in the sanctuary!
Your adversaries have roared in the midst of Your meeting place; They have set up their own standards for signs.4Your foes have roared in the midst of your meeting place; they set up their own signs for signs.
It seems as if one had lifted up His axe in a forest of trees.5They were like those who swing axes in a forest of trees.
And now all its carved work They smash with hatchet and hammers.6And all its carved wood they broke down with hatchets and hammers.
They have burned Your sanctuary to the ground; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name.7They set your sanctuary on fire; they profaned the dwelling place of your name, bringing it down to the ground.
They said in their heart, "Let us completely subdue them." They have burned all the meeting places of God in the land.8They said to themselves, “We will utterly subdue them”; they burned all the meeting places of God in the land.
We do not see our signs; There is no longer any prophet, Nor is there any among us who knows how long.9We do not see our signs; there is no longer any prophet, and there is none among us who knows how long.
How long, O God, will the adversary revile, And the enemy spurn Your name forever?10How long, O God, is the foe to scoff? Is the enemy to revile your name forever?
Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? From within Your bosom, destroy them!11Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the fold of your garment and destroy them!
Yet God is my king from of old, Who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth.12Yet God my King is from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.
You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.13You divided the sea by your might; you broke the heads of the sea monsters on the waters.
You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.14You crushed the heads of Leviathan; you gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.
You broke open springs and torrents; You dried up ever-flowing streams.15You split open springs and brooks; you dried up ever-flowing streams.
Yours is the day, Yours also is the night; You have prepared the light and the sun.16Yours is the day, yours also the night; you have established the heavenly lights and the sun.
You have established all the boundaries of the earth; You have made summer and winter.17You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth; you have made summer and winter.
Remember this, O LORD, that the enemy has reviled, And a foolish people has spurned Your name.18Remember this, O LORD, how the enemy scoffs, and a foolish people reviles your name.
Do not deliver the soul of Your turtledove to the wild beast; Do not forget the life of Your afflicted forever.19Do not deliver the soul of your dove to the wild beasts; do not forget the life of your poor forever.
Consider the covenant; For the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence.20Have regard for the covenant, for the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence.
Let not the oppressed return dishonored; Let the afflicted and needy praise Your name.21Let not the downtrodden turn back in shame; let the poor and needy praise your name.
Arise, O God, and plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish man reproaches You all day long.22Arise, O God, defend your cause; remember how the foolish scoff at you all the day!
Do not forget the voice of Your adversaries, The uproar of those who rise against You which ascends continually.23Do not forget the clamor of your foes, the uproar of those who rise against you, which goes up continually!
