Isaiah 66
NASB Parallel HCSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995Holman Christian Standard Bible
Thus says the LORD, "Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest?1This is what the LORD says: Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. What house could you possibly build for Me? And what place could be My home?
"For My hand made all these things, Thus all these things came into being," declares the LORD. "But to this one I will look, To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.2My hand made all these things, and so they all came into being. This is the LORD's declaration. I will look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and trembles at My word.
"But he who kills an ox is like one who slays a man; He who sacrifices a lamb is like the one who breaks a dog's neck; He who offers a grain offering is like one who offers swine's blood; He who burns incense is like the one who blesses an idol. As they have chosen their own ways, And their soul delights in their abominations,3One slaughters an ox, one kills a man; one sacrifices a lamb, one breaks a dog's neck; one offers a grain offering, one offers pig's blood; one offers incense, one praises an idol-- all these have chosen their ways and delight in their detestable practices.
So I will choose their punishments And will bring on them what they dread. Because I called, but no one answered; I spoke, but they did not listen. And they did evil in My sight And chose that in which I did not delight."4So I will choose their punishment, and I will bring on them what they dread because I called and no one answered; I spoke and they didn't hear; they did what was evil in My sight and chose what I didn't delight in.
Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at His word: "Your brothers who hate you, who exclude you for My name's sake, Have said, 'Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy.' But they will be put to shame.5You who tremble at His word, hear the word of the LORD:" Your brothers who hate and exclude you because of Me have said, Let the LORD be glorified so that we can see your joy!' But they will be put to shame."
"A voice of uproar from the city, a voice from the temple, The voice of the LORD who is rendering recompense to His enemies.6A sound of uproar from the city! A voice from the temple-- the voice of the LORD, paying back His enemies what they deserve!
"Before she travailed, she brought forth; Before her pain came, she gave birth to a boy.7Before Zion was in labor, she gave birth; before she was in pain, she delivered a boy.
"Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Can a land be born in one day? Can a nation be brought forth all at once? As soon as Zion travailed, she also brought forth her sons.8Who has heard of such a thing? Who has seen such things? Can a land be born in one day or a nation be delivered in an instant? Yet as soon as Zion was in labor, she gave birth to her sons."
"Shall I bring to the point of birth and not give delivery?" says the LORD. "Or shall I who gives delivery shut the womb?" says your God.9Will I bring a baby to the point of birth and not deliver it?" says the LORD;" or will I who deliver, close the womb?" says your God.
"Be joyful with Jerusalem and rejoice for her, all you who love her; Be exceedingly glad with her, all you who mourn over her,10Be glad for Jerusalem and rejoice over her, all who love her. Rejoice greatly with her, all who mourn over her--
That you may nurse and be satisfied with her comforting breasts, That you may suck and be delighted with her bountiful bosom."11so that you may nurse and be satisfied from her comforting breast and drink deeply and delight yourselves from her glorious breasts.
For thus says the LORD, "Behold, I extend peace to her like a river, And the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream; And you will be nursed, you will be carried on the hip and fondled on the knees.12For this is what the LORD says: I will make peace flow to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flood; you will nurse and be carried on her hip and bounced on her lap.
"As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; And you will be comforted in Jerusalem."13As a mother comforts her son, so I will comfort you, and you will be comforted in Jerusalem.
Then you will see this, and your heart will be glad, And your bones will flourish like the new grass; And the hand of the LORD will be made known to His servants, But He will be indignant toward His enemies.14You will see, you will rejoice, and you will flourish like grass; then the LORD's power will be revealed to His servants, but He will show His wrath against His enemies.
For behold, the LORD will come in fire And His chariots like the whirlwind, To render His anger with fury, And His rebuke with flames of fire.15Look, the LORD will come with fire-- His chariots are like the whirlwind-- to execute His anger with fury and His rebuke with flames of fire.
For the LORD will execute judgment by fire And by His sword on all flesh, And those slain by the LORD will be many.16For the LORD will execute judgment on all flesh with His fiery sword, and many will be slain by the LORD."
"Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go to the gardens, Following one in the center, Who eat swine's flesh, detestable things and mice, Will come to an end altogether," declares the LORD.17Those who dedicate and purify themselves to enter the groves following their leader, eating meat from pigs, vermin, and rats, will perish together." This is the LORD's declaration."
"For I know their works and their thoughts; the time is coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My glory.18Knowing their works and their thoughts, I have come to gather all nations and languages; they will come and see My glory.
"I will set a sign among them and will send survivors from them to the nations: Tarshish, Put, Lud, Meshech, Rosh, Tubal and Javan, to the distant coastlands that have neither heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they will declare My glory among the nations.19I will establish a sign among them, and I will send survivors from them to the nations--to Tarshish, Put, Lud (who are archers), Tubal, Javan, and the islands far away--who have not heard of My fame or seen My glory. And they will proclaim My glory among the nations.
"Then they shall bring all your brethren from all the nations as a grain offering to the LORD, on horses, in chariots, in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem," says the LORD, "just as the sons of Israel bring their grain offering in a clean vessel to the house of the LORD.20They will bring all your brothers from all the nations as a gift to the LORD on horses and chariots, in litters, and on mules and camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem," says the LORD, "just as the Israelites bring an offering in a clean vessel to the house of the LORD.
"I will also take some of them for priests and for Levites," says the LORD.21I will also take some of them as priests and Levites," says the LORD."
"For just as the new heavens and the new earth Which I make will endure before Me," declares the LORD, "So your offspring and your name will endure.22For just as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, will endure before Me"-- this is the LORD's declaration--" so your offspring and your name will endure.
"And it shall be from new moon to new moon And from sabbath to sabbath, All mankind will come to bow down before Me," says the LORD.23All mankind will come to worship Me from one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another," says the LORD."
"Then they will go forth and look On the corpses of the men Who have transgressed against Me. For their worm will not die And their fire will not be quenched; And they will be an abhorrence to all mankind."24As they leave, they will see the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against Me; for their worm will never die, their fire will never go out, and they will be a horror to all mankind."
