A Psalm of David. O LORD, I call upon You; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to You!1A Davidic psalm. LORD, I call on You; hurry to help me. Listen to my voice when I call on You.
May my prayer be counted as incense before You; The lifting up of my hands as the evening offering.2May my prayer be set before You as incense, the raising of my hands as the evening offering.
Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.3 LORD, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.
Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, To practice deeds of wickedness With men who do iniquity; And do not let me eat of their delicacies.4Do not let my heart turn to any evil thing or perform wicked acts with men who commit sin. Do not let me feast on their delicacies.
Let the righteous smite me in kindness and reprove me; It is oil upon the head; Do not let my head refuse it, For still my prayer is against their wicked deeds.5Let the righteous one strike me-- it is an act of faithful love; let him rebuke me-- it is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. Even now my prayer is against the evil acts of the wicked.
Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock, And they hear my words, for they are pleasant.6When their rulers will be thrown off the sides of a cliff, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasing.
As when one plows and breaks open the earth, Our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol.7As when one plows and breaks up the soil, turning up rocks, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol.
For my eyes are toward You, O GOD, the Lord; In You I take refuge; do not leave me defenseless.8But my eyes look to You, Lord GOD. I seek refuge in You; do not let me die.
Keep me from the jaws of the trap which they have set for me, And from the snares of those who do iniquity.9Protect me from the trap they have set for me, and from the snares of evildoers.
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, While I pass by safely.10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely.
