For the choir director. A Psalm of David. How blessed is he who considers the helpless; The LORD will deliver him in a day of trouble. | 1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. |
The LORD will protect him and keep him alive, And he shall be called blessed upon the earth; And do not give him over to the desire of his enemies. | 2The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. |
The LORD will sustain him upon his sickbed; In his illness, You restore him to health. | 3The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness. |
As for me, I said, "O LORD, be gracious to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You." | 4I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee. |
My enemies speak evil against me, "When will he die, and his name perish?" | 5Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish? |
And when he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood; His heart gathers wickedness to itself; When he goes outside, he tells it. | 6And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it. |
All who hate me whisper together against me; Against me they devise my hurt, saying, | 7All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt. |
"A wicked thing is poured out upon him, That when he lies down, he will not rise up again." | 8An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more. |
Even my close friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. | 9Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. |
But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, That I may repay them. | 10But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them. |
By this I know that You are pleased with me, Because my enemy does not shout in triumph over me. | 11By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me. |
As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, And You set me in Your presence forever. | 12And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever. |
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen. | 13Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen. |
