For the choir director. A Psalm of David. How blessed is he who considers the helpless; The LORD will deliver him in a day of trouble. | 1For the music director; a psalm of David. How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly! When trouble comes, the LORD delivers him. |
The LORD will protect him and keep him alive, And he shall be called blessed upon the earth; And do not give him over to the desire of his enemies. | 2May the LORD protect him and save his life! May he be blessed in the land! Do not turn him over to his enemies! |
The LORD will sustain him upon his sickbed; In his illness, You restore him to health. | 3The LORD supports him on his sickbed; you completely heal him from his illness. |
As for me, I said, "O LORD, be gracious to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You." | 4As for me, I said: "O LORD, have mercy on me! Heal me, for I have sinned against you! |
My enemies speak evil against me, "When will he die, and his name perish?" | 5My enemies ask this cruel question about me, 'When will he finally die and be forgotten?' |
And when he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood; His heart gathers wickedness to itself; When he goes outside, he tells it. | 6When someone comes to visit, he pretends to be friendly; he thinks of ways to defame me, and when he leaves he slanders me. |
All who hate me whisper together against me; Against me they devise my hurt, saying, | 7All who hate me whisper insults about me to one another; they plan ways to harm me. |
"A wicked thing is poured out upon him, That when he lies down, he will not rise up again." | 8They say, 'An awful disease overwhelms him, and now that he is bed-ridden he will never recover.' |
Even my close friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. | 9Even my close friend whom I trusted, he who shared meals with me, has turned against me. |
But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, That I may repay them. | 10As for you, O LORD, have mercy on me and raise me up, so I can pay them back!" |
By this I know that You are pleased with me, Because my enemy does not shout in triumph over me. | 11By this I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. |
As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, And You set me in Your presence forever. | 12As for me, you uphold me because of my integrity; you allow me permanent access to your presence. |
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen. | 13The LORD God of Israel deserves praise in the future and forevermore! We agree! We agree! |
