When Jesus had finished these words, He departed from Galilee and came into the region of Judea beyond the Jordan;1Now when Jesus finished these sayings, he left Galilee and went to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan River.
and large crowds followed Him, and He healed them there.2Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.
Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?"3Then some Pharisees came to him in order to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful to divorce a wife for any cause?"
And He answered and said, "Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE,4He answered, "Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female,
and said, 'FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH '?5and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh'?
"So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."6So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."
They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE AND SEND her AWAY?"7They said to him, "Why then did Moses command us to give a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her?"
He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way.8Jesus said to them, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of your hard hearts, but from the beginning it was not this way.
"And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."9Now I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another commits adultery."
The disciples said to Him, "If the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry."10The disciples said to him, "If this is the case of a husband with a wife, it is better not to marry!"
But He said to them, "Not all men can accept this statement, but only those to whom it has been given.11He said to them, "Not everyone can accept this statement, except those to whom it has been given.
"For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this, let him accept it."12For there are some eunuchs who were that way from birth, and some who were made eunuchs by others, and some who became eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who is able to accept this should accept it."
Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them.13Then little children were brought to him for him to lay his hands on them and pray. But the disciples scolded those who brought them.
But Jesus said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."14But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
After laying His hands on them, He departed from there.15And he placed his hands on them and went on his way.
And someone came to Him and said, "Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?"16Now someone came up to him and said, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to gain eternal life?"
And He said to him, "Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments."17He said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."
Then he said to Him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER; YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY; YOU SHALL NOT STEAL; YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS;18"Which ones?" he asked. Jesus replied, "Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony,
HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER; and YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."19honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself."
The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?"20The young man said to him, "I have wholeheartedly obeyed all these laws. What do I still lack?"
Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."21Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.22But when the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he was very rich.
And Jesus said to His disciples, "Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.23Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven!
"Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."24Again I say, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter into the kingdom of God."
When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, "Then who can be saved?"25The disciples were greatly astonished when they heard this and said, "Then who can be saved?"
And looking at them Jesus said to them, "With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."26Jesus looked at them and replied, "This is impossible for mere humans, but for God all things are possible."
Then Peter said to Him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?"27Then Peter said to him, "Look, we have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?"
And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.28Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth: In the age when all things are renewed, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
"And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My name's sake, will receive many times as much, and will inherit eternal life.29And whoever has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.
"But many who are first will be last; and the last, first.30But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
