| 1A Song, a Psalm of Asaph. O God, do not remain quiet; Do not be silent and, O God, do not be still. | 1A song, a psalm of Asaph. O God, do not be silent! Do not ignore us! Do not be inactive, O God! |
| 2For behold, Your enemies make an uproar, And those who hate You have exalted themselves. | 2For look, your enemies are making a commotion; those who hate you are hostile. |
| 3They make shrewd plans against Your people, And conspire together against Your treasured ones. | 3They carefully plot against your people, and make plans to harm the ones you cherish. |
| 4They have said, "Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation, That the name of Israel be remembered no more." | 4They say, "Come on, let's annihilate them so they are no longer a nation! Then the name of Israel will be remembered no more." |
| 5For they have conspired together with one mind; Against You they make a covenant: | 5Yes, they devise a unified strategy; they form an alliance against you. |
| 6The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites; | 6It includes the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, |
| 7Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; | 7Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia and the inhabitants of Tyre. |
| 8Assyria also has joined with them; They have become a help to the children of Lot. Selah. | 8Even Assyria has allied with them, lending its strength to the descendants of Lot. (Selah) |
| 9Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera and Jabin at the torrent of Kishon, | 9Do to them as you did to Midian--as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River! |
| 10Who were destroyed at En-dor, Who became as dung for the ground. | 10They were destroyed at Endor; their corpses were like manure on the ground. |
| 11Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb And all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, | 11Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their rulers like Zebah and Zalmunna, |
| 12Who said, "Let us possess for ourselves The pastures of God." | 12who said, "Let's take over the pastures of God!" |
| 13O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like chaff before the wind. | 13O my God, make them like dead thistles, like dead weeds blown away by the wind! |
| 14Like fire that burns the forest And like a flame that sets the mountains on fire, | 14Like the fire that burns down the forest, or the flames that consume the mountainsides, |
| 15So pursue them with Your tempest And terrify them with Your storm. | 15chase them with your gale winds, and terrify them with your windstorm. |
| 16Fill their faces with dishonor, That they may seek Your name, O LORD. | 16Cover their faces with shame, so they might seek you, O LORD. |
| 17Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever, And let them be humiliated and perish, | 17May they be humiliated and continually terrified! May they die in shame! |
| 18That they may know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth. | 18Then they will know that you alone are the LORD, the sovereign king over all the earth. |
