New American Standard Bible 1995 | New International Version |
A Song, a Psalm of Asaph. O God, do not remain quiet; Do not be silent and, O God, do not be still. | 1A song. A psalm of Asaph. O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God. |
For behold, Your enemies make an uproar, And those who hate You have exalted themselves. | 2See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads. |
They make shrewd plans against Your people, And conspire together against Your treasured ones. | 3With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. |
They have said, "Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation, That the name of Israel be remembered no more." | 4"Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel's name is remembered no more." |
For they have conspired together with one mind; Against You they make a covenant: | 5With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you-- |
The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites; | 6the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, |
Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; | 7Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. |
Assyria also has joined with them; They have become a help to the children of Lot. Selah. | 8Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot's descendants. |
Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera and Jabin at the torrent of Kishon, | 9Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, |
Who were destroyed at En-dor, Who became as dung for the ground. | 10who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground. |
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb And all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, | 11Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, |
Who said, "Let us possess for ourselves The pastures of God." | 12who said, "Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God." |
O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like chaff before the wind. | 13Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind. |
Like fire that burns the forest And like a flame that sets the mountains on fire, | 14As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, |
So pursue them with Your tempest And terrify them with Your storm. | 15so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. |
Fill their faces with dishonor, That they may seek Your name, O LORD. | 16Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name. |
Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever, And let them be humiliated and perish, | 17May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. |
That they may know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth. | 18Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD-- that you alone are the Most High over all the earth. |
