 | 1For the music director; written by the LORD's servant, David; an oracle. An evil man is rebellious to the core. He does not fear God, | 1An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked person: Dread of God has no effect on him. |
| 2for he is too proud to recognize and give up his sin. | 2For with his flattering opinion of himself, he does not discover and hate his iniquity. |
| 3The words he speaks are sinful and deceitful; he does not care about doing what is wise and right. | 3The words from his mouth are malicious and deceptive; he has stopped acting wisely and doing good. |
| 4He plans ways to sin while he lies in bed; he is committed to a sinful lifestyle; he does not reject what is evil. | 4Even on his bed he makes malicious plans. He sets himself on a path that is not good, and he does not reject evil. |
| 5O LORD, your loyal love reaches to the sky; your faithfulness to the clouds. | 5LORD, your faithful love reaches to heaven, your faithfulness to the clouds. |
| 6Your justice is like the highest mountains, your fairness like the deepest sea; you preserve mankind and the animal kingdom. | 6Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your judgments like the deepest sea. LORD, you preserve people and animals. |
| 7How precious is your loyal love, O God! The human race finds shelter under your wings. | 7How priceless your faithful love is, God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. |
| 8They are filled with food from your house, and you allow them to drink from the river of your delicacies. | 8They are filled from the abundance of your house. You let them drink from your refreshing stream. |
| 9For you are the one who gives and sustains life. | 9For the wellspring of life is with you. By means of your light we see light. |
| 10Extend your loyal love to your faithful followers, and vindicate the morally upright! | 10Spread your faithful love over those who know you, and your righteousness over the upright in heart. |
| 11Do not let arrogant men overtake me, or let evil men make me homeless! | 11Do not let the foot of the arrogant come near me or the hand of the wicked drive me away. |
| 12I can see the evildoers! They have fallen! They have been knocked down and are unable to get up! | 12There! The evildoers have fallen. They have been thrown down and cannot rise. |
