For the music director; written by the LORD's servant, David; an oracle. An evil man is rebellious to the core. He does not fear God, | 1To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD. The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes. |
for he is too proud to recognize and give up his sin. | 2For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful. |
The words he speaks are sinful and deceitful; he does not care about doing what is wise and right. | 3The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good. |
He plans ways to sin while he lies in bed; he is committed to a sinful lifestyle; he does not reject what is evil. | 4He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil. |
O LORD, your loyal love reaches to the sky; your faithfulness to the clouds. | 5Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. |
Your justice is like the highest mountains, your fairness like the deepest sea; you preserve mankind and the animal kingdom. | 6Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast. |
How precious is your loyal love, O God! The human race finds shelter under your wings. | 7How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. |
They are filled with food from your house, and you allow them to drink from the river of your delicacies. | 8They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. |
For you are the one who gives and sustains life. | 9For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. |
Extend your loyal love to your faithful followers, and vindicate the morally upright! | 10O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart. |
Do not let arrogant men overtake me, or let evil men make me homeless! | 11Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me. |
I can see the evildoers! They have fallen! They have been knocked down and are unable to get up! | 12There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise. |
