Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.1So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God.
Keep thinking about things above, not things on the earth,2Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth.
for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.3For you have died, and your life is hidden with the Messiah in God.
When Christ (who is your life) appears, then you too will be revealed in glory with him.4When the Messiah, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
So put to death whatever in your nature belongs to the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, shameful passion, evil desire, and greed which is idolatry.5Therefore, put to death what belongs to your worldly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.
Because of these things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience.6Because of these, God's wrath comes on the disobedient,
You also lived your lives in this way at one time, when you used to live among them.7and you once walked in these things when you were living in them.
But now, put off all such things as anger, rage, malice, slander, abusive language from your mouth.8But now you must also put away all the following: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth.
Do not lie to one another since you have put off the old man with its practices9Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices
and have been clothed with the new man that is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of the one who created it.10and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your Creator.
Here there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all and in all. 11In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all.
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a heart of mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,12Therefore, God's chosen ones, holy and loved, put on heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,
bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if someone happens to have a complaint against anyone else. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also forgive others.13accepting one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive.
And to all these virtues add love, which is the perfect bond.14Above all, put on love--the perfect bond of unity.
Let the peace of Christ be in control in your heart (for you were in fact called as one body to this peace), and be thankful.15And let the peace of the Messiah, to which you were also called in one body, control your hearts. Be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God.16Let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God.
And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. 17And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.18Wives, be submissive to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.19Husbands, love your wives and don't be bitter toward them.
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing in the Lord.20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they will not become disheartened.21Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so they won't become discouraged.
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in every respect, not only when they are watching--like those who are strictly people-pleasers--but with a sincere heart, fearing the Lord.22Slaves, obey your human masters in everything. Don't work only while being watched, in order to please men, but work wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord.
Whatever you are doing, work at it with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not for people,23Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men,
because you know that you will receive your inheritance from the Lord as the reward. Serve the Lord Christ.24knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ.
For the one who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there are no exceptions.25For the wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong he has done, and there is no favoritism.
