Now on the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,1On the third day of that week there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,
and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.2and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran out, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no wine left."3When the wine ran out, Jesus' mother told him, "They don't have any more wine."
Jesus replied, "Woman, why are you saying this to me? My time has not yet come."4"How does that concern us, dear lady?" Jesus asked her. "My time hasn't come yet."
His mother told the servants, "Whatever he tells you, do it." 5His mother told the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washing, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.6Now standing there were six stone water jars used for the Jewish rites of purification, each one holding from two to three measures.
Jesus told the servants, "Fill the water jars with water." So they filled them up to the very top.7Jesus told the servants, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them up to the brim.
Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the head steward," and they did.8Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the man in charge of the banquet." So they did.
When the head steward tasted the water that had been turned to wine, not knowing where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), he called the bridegroom9When the man in charge of the banquet tasted the water that had become wine (without knowing where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew), he called for the bridegroom
and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the cheaper wine when the guests are drunk. You have kept the good wine until now!"10and told him, "Everyone serves the best wine first, and the cheap kind when people are drunk. But you have kept the best wine until now!"
Jesus did this as the first of his miraculous signs, in Cana of Galilee. In this way he revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him. 11Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee. He revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples, and they stayed there a few days.12After this, Jesus went down to Capernaum—he, his mother, his brothers, and his disciples—and they remained there for a few days.
Now the Jewish feast of Passover was near, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 13The Jewish Passover was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
He found in the temple courts those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting at tables.14In the Temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, as well as moneychangers sitting at their tables.
So he made a whip of cords and drove them all out of the temple courts, with the sheep and the oxen. He scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.15After making a whip out of cords, he drove all of them out of the Temple, including the sheep and the cattle. He scattered the coins of the moneychangers and knocked over their tables.
To those who sold the doves he said, "Take these things away from here! Do not make my Father's house a marketplace!"16Then he told those who were selling the doves, "Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father's house a marketplace!"
His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will devour me." 17His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will consume me."
So then the Jewish leaders responded, "What sign can you show us, since you are doing these things?"18Then the Jewish leaders asked him, "What sign can you show us as authority for doing these things?"
Jesus replied, "Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up again."19Jesus answered them, "Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will rebuild it."
Then the Jewish leaders said to him, "This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and are you going to raise it up in three days?"20The Jewish leaders said, "This sanctuary has been under construction for 46 years, and you're going to rebuild it in three days?"
But Jesus was speaking about the temple of his body.21But the sanctuary he was speaking about was his own body.
So after he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the scripture and the saying that Jesus had spoken. 22After he had been raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this. So they believed the Scripture and the statement that Jesus had made.
Now while Jesus was in Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover, many people believed in his name because they saw the miraculous signs he was doing.23While Jesus was in Jerusalem for the Passover Festival, many people believed in him because they saw the signs that he was doing.
But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people.24Jesus, however, did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people
He did not need anyone to testify about man, for he knew what was in man. 25and didn't need anyone to tell him what people were like, because he himself knew what was in every person.
