NET BibleInternational Standard Version
For the music director; by David, a psalm, a song. God springs into action! His enemies scatter; his adversaries run from him. 1God arises, and his enemies are scattered. Those who hate him flee from his presence.
As smoke is driven away by the wind, so you drive them away. As wax melts before fire, so the wicked are destroyed before God. 2As smoke is driven away, so you drive them away. As wax melts in the presence of fire, so the wicked die in the presence of God.
But the godly are happy; they rejoice before God and are overcome with joy. 3But the righteous rejoice and exult before God; they are overwhelmed with joy.
Sing to God! Sing praises to his name! Exalt the one who rides on the clouds! For the LORD is his name! Rejoice before him! 4Sing to God! Sing praise to his name! Exalt the one who rides on the clouds. The LORD is his name. Be jubilant in his presence.
He is a father to the fatherless and an advocate for widows. God rules from his holy palace. 5A father to orphans and an advocate for widows is God in his holy dwelling place.
God settles those who have been deserted in their own homes; he frees prisoners and grants them prosperity. But sinful rebels live in the desert. 6God causes the lonely to dwell in families. He leads prisoners into prosperity, but rebels live on parched land.
O God, when you lead your people into battle, when you march through the desert, (Selah) 7God, when you led out your people, when you marched through the desert, Interlude
the earth shakes, yes, the heavens pour down rain before God, the God of Sinai, before God, the God of Israel. 8the land quaked. Indeed, the heavens poured down rain from the presence of God, this God of Sinai, from the presence of God, the God of Israel.
O God, you cause abundant showers to fall on your chosen people. When they are tired, you sustain them, 9God, you poured out abundant rain on your inheritance. When Israel was weary, you sustained her.
for you live among them. You sustain the oppressed with your good blessings, O God. 10Your people live there; you sustain the needy with your goodness, God.
The Lord speaks; many, many women spread the good news. 11The Lord issues a command. Numerous are the women who announce the news:
Kings leading armies run away--they run away! The lovely lady of the house divides up the loot. 12"Kings of armies retreat and flee, while the lady of the house divides the spoil.
When you lie down among the sheepfolds, the wings of the dove are covered with silver and with glittering gold. 13When you men lie down among the sheepfolds, you are like the wings of the dove covered with silver, with its feathers in glittering gold."
When the sovereign judge scatters kings, let it snow on Zalmon! 14When the Almighty scattered the kings there, there was snow on Mt. Zalmon.
The mountain of Bashan is a towering mountain; the mountain of Bashan is a mountain with many peaks. 15The mountain of God is as the mountain of Bashan; a mountain of many peaks is Mount Bashan.
Why do you look with envy, O mountains with many peaks, at the mountain where God has decided to live? Indeed the LORD will live there permanently! 16You mountains of many peaks, why do you watch with envy the mountain in which God has chosen to dwell? Indeed, the LORD will live there forever.
God has countless chariots; they number in the thousands. The Lord comes from Sinai in holy splendor. 17God's chariots were many thousands. The Lord was there with them at Sinai in holiness.
You ascend on high, you have taken many captives. You receive tribute from men, including even sinful rebels. Indeed the LORD God lives there! 18You ascended to the heights, you took captives. You received gifts among mankind, even the rebellious, so the LORD God may live there.
The Lord deserves praise! Day after day he carries our burden, the God who delivers us. (Selah) 19Blessed be the Lord who daily carries us. God is our deliverer.
Our God is a God who delivers; the LORD, the sovereign Lord, can rescue from death. 20God is for us the God of our deliverance. The Lord GOD rescues us from death.
Indeed God strikes the heads of his enemies, the hairy foreheads of those who persist in rebellion. 21God surely strikes the heads of his enemies, even the hairy heads of those who continue in their guilt.
The Lord says, "I will retrieve them from Bashan, I will bring them back from the depths of the sea, 22The Lord says, "From Bashan I will bring them, I will bring them from the depths of the sea,
so that your feet may stomp in their blood, and your dogs may eat their portion of the enemies' corpses." 23that your feet may wade through blood. The tongues of your dogs will have their portions from your enemies."
They see your processions, O God--the processions of my God, my king, who marches along in holy splendor. 24They have observed your processions, God, the processions of my God, my king, in the sanctuary.
Singers walk in front; musicians follow playing their stringed instruments, in the midst of young women playing tambourines. 25The singers are in front, the musicians follow, strumming their stringed instruments among the maidens who are playing their tambourines.
In your large assemblies praise God, the LORD, in the assemblies of Israel! 26Bless God in the great congregation, the LORD who is the fountain of Israel.
There is little Benjamin, their ruler, and the princes of Judah in their robes, along with the princes of Zebulun and the princes of Naphtali. 27Little Benjamin is there, leading them, and the princes of Judah all together with the princes of Zebulun and the princes of Naphtali.
God has decreed that you will be powerful. O God, you who have acted on our behalf, demonstrate your power, 28Summon the power of your God, the power, God, that you have shown us.
as you come out of your temple in Jerusalem! Kings bring tribute to you. 29Because of your Temple in Jerusalem, kings bring tribute to you.
Sound your battle cry against the wild beast of the reeds, and the nations that assemble like a herd of calves led by bulls! They humble themselves and offer gold and silver as tribute. God scatters the nations that like to do battle. 30Rebuke the wildlife that lives among the reeds, the nations that congregate like bulls and cows, humbling themselves with pieces of silver, for God scatters the nations that delight in battle.
They come with red cloth from Egypt, Ethiopia voluntarily offers tribute to God. 31Envoys will come from Egypt. Let the Ethiopians stretch out their hands to God.
O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God! Sing praises to the Lord, (Selah) 32You kingdoms of the earth, sing to God! Sing praises to the Lord, Interlude
to the one who rides through the sky from ancient times! Look! He thunders loudly. 33to the one who rides the heavens, the ancient heavens. Behold! He thunders with a mighty voice.
Acknowledge God's power, his sovereignty over Israel, and the power he reveals in the skies! 34Ascribe power to God, whose glory is over Israel, whose power is in the skies.
You are awe-inspiring, O God, as you emerge from your holy temple! It is the God of Israel who gives the people power and strength. God deserves praise! 35You are awesome, God, from your sanctuaries. The God of Israel is the one who gives strength and power to the people. Blessed be God!
