NET BibleNew Living Translation
For the music director; by David, a psalm, a song. God springs into action! His enemies scatter; his adversaries run from him. 1Rise up, O God, and scatter your enemies. Let those who hate God run for their lives.
As smoke is driven away by the wind, so you drive them away. As wax melts before fire, so the wicked are destroyed before God. 2Blow them away like smoke. Melt them like wax in a fire. Let the wicked perish in the presence of God.
But the godly are happy; they rejoice before God and are overcome with joy. 3But let the godly rejoice. Let them be glad in God’s presence. Let them be filled with joy.
Sing to God! Sing praises to his name! Exalt the one who rides on the clouds! For the LORD is his name! Rejoice before him! 4Sing praises to God and to his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the LORD— rejoice in his presence!
He is a father to the fatherless and an advocate for widows. God rules from his holy palace. 5Father to the fatherless, defender of widows— this is God, whose dwelling is holy.
God settles those who have been deserted in their own homes; he frees prisoners and grants them prosperity. But sinful rebels live in the desert. 6God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But he makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.
O God, when you lead your people into battle, when you march through the desert, (Selah) 7O God, when you led your people out from Egypt, when you marched through the dry wasteland, Interlude
the earth shakes, yes, the heavens pour down rain before God, the God of Sinai, before God, the God of Israel. 8the earth trembled, and the heavens poured down rain before you, the God of Sinai, before God, the God of Israel.
O God, you cause abundant showers to fall on your chosen people. When they are tired, you sustain them, 9You sent abundant rain, O God, to refresh the weary land.
for you live among them. You sustain the oppressed with your good blessings, O God. 10There your people finally settled, and with a bountiful harvest, O God, you provided for your needy people.
The Lord speaks; many, many women spread the good news. 11The Lord gives the word, and a great army brings the good news.
Kings leading armies run away--they run away! The lovely lady of the house divides up the loot. 12Enemy kings and their armies flee, while the women of Israel divide the plunder.
When you lie down among the sheepfolds, the wings of the dove are covered with silver and with glittering gold. 13Even those who lived among the sheepfolds found treasures— doves with wings of silver and feathers of gold.
When the sovereign judge scatters kings, let it snow on Zalmon! 14The Almighty scattered the enemy kings like a blowing snowstorm on Mount Zalmon.
The mountain of Bashan is a towering mountain; the mountain of Bashan is a mountain with many peaks. 15The mountains of Bashan are majestic, with many peaks stretching high into the sky.
Why do you look with envy, O mountains with many peaks, at the mountain where God has decided to live? Indeed the LORD will live there permanently! 16Why do you look with envy, O rugged mountains, at Mount Zion, where God has chosen to live, where the LORD himself will live forever?
God has countless chariots; they number in the thousands. The Lord comes from Sinai in holy splendor. 17Surrounded by unnumbered thousands of chariots, the Lord came from Mount Sinai into his sanctuary.
You ascend on high, you have taken many captives. You receive tribute from men, including even sinful rebels. Indeed the LORD God lives there! 18When you ascended to the heights, you led a crowd of captives. You received gifts from the people, even from those who rebelled against you. Now the LORD God will live among us there.
The Lord deserves praise! Day after day he carries our burden, the God who delivers us. (Selah) 19Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. Interlude
Our God is a God who delivers; the LORD, the sovereign Lord, can rescue from death. 20Our God is a God who saves! The Sovereign LORD rescues us from death.
Indeed God strikes the heads of his enemies, the hairy foreheads of those who persist in rebellion. 21But God will smash the heads of his enemies, crushing the skulls of those who love their guilty ways.
The Lord says, "I will retrieve them from Bashan, I will bring them back from the depths of the sea, 22The Lord says, “I will bring my enemies down from Bashan; I will bring them up from the depths of the sea.
so that your feet may stomp in their blood, and your dogs may eat their portion of the enemies' corpses." 23You, my people, will wash your feet in their blood, and even your dogs will get their share!”
They see your processions, O God--the processions of my God, my king, who marches along in holy splendor. 24Your procession has come into view, O God— the procession of my God and King as he goes into the sanctuary.
Singers walk in front; musicians follow playing their stringed instruments, in the midst of young women playing tambourines. 25Singers are in front, musicians behind; between them are young women playing tambourines.
In your large assemblies praise God, the LORD, in the assemblies of Israel! 26Praise God, all you people of Israel; praise the LORD, the source of Israel’s life.
There is little Benjamin, their ruler, and the princes of Judah in their robes, along with the princes of Zebulun and the princes of Naphtali. 27Look, the little tribe of Benjamin leads the way. Then comes a great throng of rulers from Judah and all the rulers of Zebulun and Naphtali.
God has decreed that you will be powerful. O God, you who have acted on our behalf, demonstrate your power, 28Summon your might, O God. Display your power, O God, as you have in the past.
as you come out of your temple in Jerusalem! Kings bring tribute to you. 29The kings of the earth are bringing tribute to your Temple in Jerusalem.
Sound your battle cry against the wild beast of the reeds, and the nations that assemble like a herd of calves led by bulls! They humble themselves and offer gold and silver as tribute. God scatters the nations that like to do battle. 30Rebuke these enemy nations— these wild animals lurking in the reeds, this herd of bulls among the weaker calves. Make them bring bars of silver in humble tribute. Scatter the nations that delight in war.
They come with red cloth from Egypt, Ethiopia voluntarily offers tribute to God. 31Let Egypt come with gifts of precious metals ; let Ethiopia bring tribute to God.
O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God! Sing praises to the Lord, (Selah) 32Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth. Sing praises to the Lord. Interlude
to the one who rides through the sky from ancient times! Look! He thunders loudly. 33Sing to the one who rides across the ancient heavens, his mighty voice thundering from the sky.
Acknowledge God's power, his sovereignty over Israel, and the power he reveals in the skies! 34Tell everyone about God’s power. His majesty shines down on Israel; his strength is mighty in the heavens.
You are awe-inspiring, O God, as you emerge from your holy temple! It is the God of Israel who gives the people power and strength. God deserves praise! 35God is awesome in his sanctuary. The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!
