Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron: | 1And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, |
"Take a census of the Kohathites from among the Levites, by their families and by their clans, | 2Take the sum of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, after their families, by the house of their fathers, |
from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, all who enter the company to do the work in the tent of meeting. | 3From thirty years old and upward even until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation. |
This is the service of the Kohathites in the tent of meeting, relating to the most holy things. | 4This shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation, about the most holy things: |
When it is time for the camp to journey, Aaron and his sons must come and take down the screening curtain and cover the ark of the testimony with it. | 5And when the camp setteth forward, Aaron shall come, and his sons, and they shall take down the covering vail, and cover the ark of testimony with it: |
Then they must put over it a covering of fine leather and spread over that a cloth entirely of blue, and then they must insert its poles. | 6And shall put thereon the covering of badgers' skins, and shall spread over it a cloth wholly of blue, and shall put in the staves thereof. |
"On the table of the presence they must spread a blue cloth, and put on it the dishes, the pans, the bowls, and the pitchers for pouring, and the Bread of the Presence must be on it continually. | 7And upon the table of shewbread they shall spread a cloth of blue, and put thereon the dishes, and the spoons, and the bowls, and covers to cover withal: and the continual bread shall be thereon: |
They must spread over them a scarlet cloth, and cover the same with a covering of fine leather; and they must insert its poles. | 8And they shall spread upon them a cloth of scarlet, and cover the same with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put in the staves thereof. |
"They must take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand of the light, with its lamps, its wick-trimmers, its trays, and all its oil vessels, with which they service it. | 9And they shall take a cloth of blue, and cover the candlestick of the light, and his lamps, and his tongs, and his snuffdishes, and all the oil vessels thereof, wherewith they minister unto it: |
Then they must put it with all its utensils in a covering of fine leather, and put it on a carrying beam. | 10And they shall put it and all the vessels thereof within a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put it upon a bar. |
"They must spread a blue cloth on the gold altar, and cover it with a covering of fine leather; and they must insert its poles. | 11And upon the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blue, and cover it with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put to the staves thereof: |
Then they must take all the utensils of the service, with which they serve in the sanctuary, put them in a blue cloth, cover them with a covering of fine leather, and put them on a carrying beam. | 12And they shall take all the instruments of ministry, wherewith they minister in the sanctuary, and put them in a cloth of blue, and cover them with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put them on a bar: |
Also, they must take away the ashes from the altar and spread a purple cloth over it. | 13And they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth thereon: |
Then they must place on it all its implements with which they serve there--the trays, the meat forks, the shovels, the basins, and all the utensils of the altar--and they must spread on it a covering of fine leather, and then insert its poles. | 14And they shall put upon it all the vessels thereof, wherewith they minister about it, even the censers, the fleshhooks, and the shovels, and the basons, all the vessels of the altar; and they shall spread upon it a covering of badgers' skins, and put to the staves of it. |
"When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, when the camp is ready to journey, then the Kohathites will come to carry them; but they must not touch any holy thing, or they will die. These are the responsibilities of the Kohathites with the tent of meeting. | 15And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, as the camp is to set forward; after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear it: but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation. |
"The appointed responsibility of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest is for the oil for the light, and the spiced incense, and the daily grain offering, and the anointing oil; he also has the appointed responsibility over all the tabernacle with all that is in it, over the sanctuary and over all its furnishings." | 16And to the office of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest pertaineth the oil for the light, and the sweet incense, and the daily meat offering, and the anointing oil, and the oversight of all the tabernacle, and of all that therein is, in the sanctuary, and in the vessels thereof. |
Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron: | 17And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, |
"Do not allow the tribe of the families of the Kohathites to be cut off from among the Levites; | 18Cut ye not off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites: |
but in order that they will live and not die when they approach the most holy things, do this for them: Aaron and his sons will go in and appoint each man to his service and his responsibility. | 19But thus do unto them, that they may live, and not die, when they approach unto the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in, and appoint them every one to his service and to his burden: |
But the Kohathites are not to go in to watch while the holy things are being covered, or they will die." | 20But they shall not go in to see when the holy things are covered, lest they die. |
Then the LORD spoke to Moses: | 21And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, |
"Also take a census of the Gershonites, by their clans and by their families. | 22Take also the sum of the sons of Gershon, throughout the houses of their fathers, by their families; |
You must number them from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, all who enter the company to do the work of the tent of meeting. | 23From thirty years old and upward until fifty years old shalt thou number them; all that enter in to perform the service, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation. |
This is the service of the families of Gershonites, as they serve and carry it. | 24This is the service of the families of the Gershonites, to serve, and for burdens: |
They must carry the curtains for the tabernacle and the tent of meeting with its covering, the covering of fine leather that is over it, the curtains for the entrance of the tent of meeting, | 25And they shall bear the curtains of the tabernacle, and the tabernacle of the congregation, his covering, and the covering of the badgers' skins that is above upon it, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, |
the hangings for the courtyard, the curtain for the entrance of the gate of the court, which is around the tabernacle and the altar, and their ropes, along with all the furnishings for their service and everything that is made for them. So they are to serve. | 26And the hangings of the court, and the hanging for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the altar round about, and their cords, and all the instruments of their service, and all that is made for them: so shall they serve. |
"All the service of the Gershonites, whether carrying loads or for any of their work, will be at the direction of Aaron and his sons. You will assign them all their tasks as their responsibility. | 27At the appointment of Aaron and his sons shall be all the service of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burdens, and in all their service: and ye shall appoint unto them in charge all their burdens. |
This is the service of the families of the Gershonites concerning the tent of meeting. Their responsibilities will be under the authority of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest. | 28This is the service of the families of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of the congregation: and their charge shall be under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. |
"As for the sons of Merari, you are to number them by their families and by their clans. | 29As for the sons of Merari, thou shalt number them after their families, by the house of their fathers; |
You must number them from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, all who enter the company to do the work of the tent of meeting. | 30From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old shalt thou number them, every one that entereth into the service, to do the work of the tabernacle of the congregation. |
This is what they are responsible to carry as their entire service in the tent of meeting: the frames of the tabernacle, its crossbars, its posts, its sockets, | 31And this is the charge of their burden, according to all their service in the tabernacle of the congregation; the boards of the tabernacle, and the bars thereof, and the pillars thereof, and sockets thereof, |
and the posts of the surrounding courtyard with their sockets, tent pegs, and ropes, along with all their furnishings and everything for their service. You are to assign by names the items that each man is responsible to carry. | 32And the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords, with all their instruments, and with all their service: and by name ye shall reckon the instruments of the charge of their burden. |
This is the service of the families of the Merarites, their entire service concerning the tent of meeting, under the authority of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest." | 33This is the service of the families of the sons of Merari, according to all their service, in the tabernacle of the congregation, under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. |
So Moses and Aaron and the leaders of the community numbered the Kohathites by their families and by clans, | 34And Moses and Aaron and the chief of the congregation numbered the sons of the Kohathites after their families, and after the house of their fathers, |
from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, everyone who entered the company for the work in the tent of meeting; | 35From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that entereth into the service, for the work in the tabernacle of the congregation: |
and those of them numbered by their families were 2,750. | 36And those that were numbered of them by their families were two thousand seven hundred and fifty. |
These were those numbered from the families of the Kohathites, everyone who served in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the word of the LORD by the authority of Moses. | 37These were they that were numbered of the families of the Kohathites, all that might do service in the tabernacle of the congregation, which Moses and Aaron did number according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses. |
Those numbered from the Gershonites, by their families and by their clans, | 38And those that were numbered of the sons of Gershon, throughout their families, and by the house of their fathers, |
from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, everyone who entered the company for the work in the tent of meeting-- | 39From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that entereth into the service, for the work in the tabernacle of the congregation, |
those of them numbered by their families, by their clans, were 2,630. | 40Even those that were numbered of them, throughout their families, by the house of their fathers, were two thousand and six hundred and thirty. |
These were those numbered from the families of the Gershonites, everyone who served in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the word of the LORD. | 41These are they that were numbered of the families of the sons of Gershon, of all that might do service in the tabernacle of the congregation, whom Moses and Aaron did number according to the commandment of the LORD. |
Those numbered from the families of the Merarites, by their families, by their clans, | 42And those that were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, throughout their families, by the house of their fathers, |
from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, everyone who entered the company for the work in the tent of meeting-- | 43From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that entereth into the service, for the work in the tabernacle of the congregation, |
those of them numbered by their families were 3,200. | 44Even those that were numbered of them after their families, were three thousand and two hundred. |
These are those numbered from the families of the Merarites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the word of the LORD by the authority of Moses. | 45These be those that were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses. |
All who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of Israel numbered by their families and by their clans, | 46All those that were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the chief of Israel numbered, after their families, and after the house of their fathers, |
from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, everyone who entered to do the work of service and the work of carrying relating to the tent of meeting-- | 47From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that came to do the service of the ministry, and the service of the burden in the tabernacle of the congregation, |
those of them numbered were 8,580. | 48Even those that were numbered of them, were eight thousand and five hundred and fourscore. |
According to the word of the LORD they were numbered, by the authority of Moses, each according to his service and according to what he was to carry. Thus were they numbered by him, as the LORD had commanded Moses. | 49According to the commandment of the LORD they were numbered by the hand of Moses, every one according to his service, and according to his burden: thus were they numbered of him, as the LORD commanded Moses. |
