NET BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
For the music director; according to the gittith style; by Asaph. Shout for joy to God, our source of strength! Shout out to the God of Jacob! 1For the choir director; on the Gittith. A Psalm of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; Shout joyfully to the God of Jacob.
Sing a song and play the tambourine, the pleasant sounding harp, and the ten-stringed instrument! 2Raise a song, strike the timbrel, The sweet sounding lyre with the harp.
Sound the ram's horn on the day of the new moon, and on the day of the full moon when our festival begins. 3Blow the trumpet at the new moon, At the full moon, on our feast day.
For observing the festival is a requirement for Israel; it is an ordinance given by the God of Jacob. 4For it is a statute for Israel, An ordinance of the God of Jacob.
He decreed it as a regulation in Joseph, when he attacked the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I did not recognize. 5He established it for a testimony in Joseph When he went throughout the land of Egypt. I heard a language that I did not know:
It said: "I removed the burden from his shoulder; his hands were released from holding the basket. 6"I relieved his shoulder of the burden, His hands were freed from the basket.
In your distress you called out and I rescued you. I answered you from a dark thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah. (Selah) 7"You called in trouble and I rescued you; I answered you in the hiding place of thunder; I proved you at the waters of Meribah. Selah.
I said, 'Listen, my people! I will warn you! O Israel, if only you would obey me! 8"Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you; O Israel, if you would listen to Me!
There must be no other god among you. You must not worship a foreign god. 9"Let there be no strange god among you; Nor shall you worship any foreign god.
I am the LORD, your God, the one who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it!' 10"I, the LORD, am your God, Who brought you up from the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.
But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me. 11"But My people did not listen to My voice, And Israel did not obey Me.
I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them. 12"So I gave them over to the stubbornness of their heart, To walk in their own devices.
If only my people would obey me! If only Israel would keep my commands! 13"Oh that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!
Then I would quickly subdue their enemies, and attack their adversaries." 14"I would quickly subdue their enemies And turn My hand against their adversaries.
(May those who hate the LORD cower in fear before him! May they be permanently humiliated!) 15"Those who hate the LORD would pretend obedience to Him, And their time of punishment would be forever.
"I would feed Israel the best wheat, and would satisfy your appetite with honey from the rocky cliffs." 16"But I would feed you with the finest of the wheat, And with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."
