NET BibleNew Living Translation
"When you have experienced all these things, both the blessings and the curses I have set before you, you will reflect upon them in all the nations where the LORD your God has banished you.1“In the future, when you experience all these blessings and curses I have listed for you, and when you are living among the nations to which the LORD your God has exiled you, take to heart all these instructions.
Then if you and your descendants turn to the LORD your God and obey him with your whole mind and being just as I am commanding you today,2If at that time you and your children return to the LORD your God, and if you obey with all your heart and all your soul all the commands I have given you today,
the LORD your God will reverse your captivity and have pity on you. He will turn and gather you from all the peoples among whom he has scattered you.3then the LORD your God will restore your fortunes. He will have mercy on you and gather you back from all the nations where he has scattered you.
Even if your exiles are in the most distant land, from there the LORD your God will gather you and bring you back.4Even though you are banished to the ends of the earth, the LORD your God will gather you from there and bring you back again.
Then he will bring you to the land your ancestors possessed and you also will possess it; he will do better for you and multiply you more than he did your ancestors.5The LORD your God will return you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will possess that land again. Then he will make you even more prosperous and numerous than your ancestors!
The LORD your God will also cleanse your heart and the hearts of your descendants so that you may love him with all your mind and being and so that you may live.6“The LORD your God will change your heart and the hearts of all your descendants, so that you will love him with all your heart and soul and so you may live!
Then the LORD your God will put all these curses on your enemies, on those who hate you and persecute you.7The LORD your God will inflict all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate and persecute you.
You will return and obey the LORD, keeping all his commandments I am giving you today.8Then you will again obey the LORD and keep all his commands that I am giving you today.
The LORD your God will make the labor of your hands abundantly successful and multiply your children, the offspring of your cattle, and the produce of your soil. For the LORD your God will once more rejoice over you to make you prosperous just as he rejoiced over your ancestors,9“The LORD your God will then make you successful in everything you do. He will give you many children and numerous livestock, and he will cause your fields to produce abundant harvests, for the LORD will again delight in being good to you as he was to your ancestors.
if you obey the LORD your God and keep his commandments and statutes that are written in this scroll of the law. But you must turn to him with your whole mind and being. 10The LORD your God will delight in you if you obey his voice and keep the commands and decrees written in this Book of Instruction, and if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul. The Choice of Life or Death
"This commandment I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it too remote.11“This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, and it is not beyond your reach.
It is not in heaven, as though one must say, "Who will go up to heaven to get it for us and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?"12It is not kept in heaven, so distant that you must ask, ‘Who will go up to heaven and bring it down so we can hear it and obey?’
And it is not across the sea, as though one must say, "Who will cross over to the other side of the sea and get it for us and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?"13It is not kept beyond the sea, so far away that you must ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to bring it to us so we can hear it and obey?’
For the thing is very near you--it is in your mouth and in your mind so that you can do it. 14No, the message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart so that you can obey it.
"Look! I have set before you today life and prosperity on the one hand, and death and disaster on the other.15“Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster.
What I am commanding you today is to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to obey his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances. Then you will live and become numerous and the LORD your God will bless you in the land which you are about to possess.16For I command you this day to love the LORD your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy.
However, if you turn aside and do not obey, but are lured away to worship and serve other gods,17“But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are drawn away to serve and worship other gods,
I declare to you this very day that you will certainly perish! You will not extend your time in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.18then I warn you now that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live a long, good life in the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy.
Today I invoke heaven and earth as a witness against you that I have set life and death, blessing and curse, before you. Therefore choose life so that you and your descendants may live!19“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!
I also call on you to love the LORD your God, to obey him and be loyal to him, for he gives you life and enables you to live continually in the land the LORD promised to give to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." 20You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
