New International VersionBerean Study Bible
A psalm of David. I call to you, LORD, come quickly to me; hear me when I call to you.1A Psalm of David. I call upon You, O LORD; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to You.
May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.2May my prayer be set before You like incense, my uplifted hands like the evening offering.
Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.3Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.
Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.4Do not let my heart be drawn to any evil thing or take part in works of wickedness with men who do iniquity; let me not feast on their delicacies.
Let a righteous man strike me--that is a kindness; let him rebuke me--that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.5Let the righteous man strike me; let his rebuke be an act of loving devotion. It is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. For my prayer is ever against the deeds of the wicked.
Their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.6When their rulers are thrown down from the cliffs, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasant.
They will say, "As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave."7As when one plows and breaks up the soil, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol.
But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge--do not give me over to death.8But my eyes are fixed on You, O GOD the Lord. In You I seek refuge; do not leave my soul defenseless.
Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers, from the snares they have laid for me.9Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, and from the lures of evildoers.
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.
