New International VersionHolman Christian Standard Bible
A psalm of David. I call to you, LORD, come quickly to me; hear me when I call to you.1A Davidic psalm. LORD, I call on You; hurry to help me. Listen to my voice when I call on You.
May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.2May my prayer be set before You as incense, the raising of my hands as the evening offering.
Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.3 LORD, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.
Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.4Do not let my heart turn to any evil thing or perform wicked acts with men who commit sin. Do not let me feast on their delicacies.
Let a righteous man strike me--that is a kindness; let him rebuke me--that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.5Let the righteous one strike me-- it is an act of faithful love; let him rebuke me-- it is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. Even now my prayer is against the evil acts of the wicked.
Their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.6When their rulers will be thrown off the sides of a cliff, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasing.
They will say, "As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave."7As when one plows and breaks up the soil, turning up rocks, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol.
But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge--do not give me over to death.8But my eyes look to You, Lord GOD. I seek refuge in You; do not let me die.
Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers, from the snares they have laid for me.9Protect me from the trap they have set for me, and from the snares of evildoers.
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely.
