The LORD then said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. | 1Then the LORD said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation. |
Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, | 2Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals, the male and his mate, and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and his mate, |
and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. | 3and seven pairs of the birds of the heavens also, male and female, to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth. |
Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made." | 4For in seven days I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and every living thing that I have made I will blot out from the face of the ground.” |
And Noah did all that the LORD commanded him. | 5And Noah did all that the LORD had commanded him. |
Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth. | 6Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters came upon the earth. |
And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. | 7And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him went into the ark to escape the waters of the flood. |
Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, | 8Of clean animals, and of animals that are not clean, and of birds, and of everything that creeps on the ground, |
male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah. | 9two and two, male and female, went into the ark with Noah, as God had commanded Noah. |
And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth. | 10And after seven days the waters of the flood came upon the earth. |
In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month--on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. | 11In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened. |
And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. | 12And rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights. |
On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. | 13On the very same day Noah and his sons, Shem and Ham and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them entered the ark, |
They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings. | 14they and every beast, according to its kind, and all the livestock according to their kinds, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, according to its kind, and every bird, according to its kind, every winged creature. |
Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. | 15They went into the ark with Noah, two and two of all flesh in which there was the breath of life. |
The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD shut him in. | 16And those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him. And the LORD shut him in. |
For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. | 17The flood continued forty days on the earth. The waters increased and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. |
The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. | 18The waters prevailed and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the face of the waters. |
They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. | 19And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. |
The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits. | 20The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep. |
Every living thing that moved on land perished--birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. | 21And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind. |
Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. | 22Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died. |
Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. | 23He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark. |
The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days. | 24And the waters prevailed on the earth 150 days. |
