For the director of music. According to sheminith. A psalm of David. Help, LORD, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race. | 1For the choir director: according to Sheminith. A Davidic psalm. Help, LORD, for no faithful one remains; the loyal have disappeared from the human race. |
Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts. | 2They lie to one another; they speak with flattering lips and deceptive hearts. |
May the LORD silence all flattering lips and every boastful tongue-- | 3May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and the tongue that speaks boastfully. |
those who say, "By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us--who is lord over us?" | 4They say, "Through our tongues we have power; our lips are our own--who can be our master?"" |
"Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise," says the LORD. "I will protect them from those who malign them." | 5Because of the oppression of the afflicted and the groaning of the poor, I will now rise up," says the LORD." I will put the one who longs for it in a safe place." |
And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times. | 6The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in an earthen furnace, purified seven times. |
You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, | 7You, LORD, will guard us; You will protect us from this generation forever. |
who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race. | 8The wicked wander everywhere, and what is worthless is exalted by the human race. |
