For the director of music. According to sheminith. A psalm of David. Help, LORD, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race. | 1For the choir director; upon an eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm of David. Help, LORD, for the godly man ceases to be, For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. |
Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts. | 2They speak falsehood to one another; With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak. |
May the LORD silence all flattering lips and every boastful tongue-- | 3May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, The tongue that speaks great things; |
those who say, "By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us--who is lord over us?" | 4Who have said, "With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; who is lord over us?" |
"Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise," says the LORD. "I will protect them from those who malign them." | 5"Because of the devastation of the afflicted, because of the groaning of the needy, Now I will arise," says the LORD; "I will set him in the safety for which he longs." |
And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times. | 6The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times. |
You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, | 7You, O LORD, will keep them; You will preserve him from this generation forever. |
who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race. | 8The wicked strut about on every side When vileness is exalted among the sons of men. |
