New International Version | King James Bible |
As for other matters, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. | 1Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: |
And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith. | 2And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. |
But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. | 3But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. |
We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command. | 4And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. |
May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance. | 5And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. |
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. | 6Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. |
For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, | 7For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; |
nor did we eat anyone's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. | 8Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: |
We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. | 9Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us. |
For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat." | 10For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. |
We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. | 11For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. |
Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. | 12Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. |
And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good. | 13But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. |
Take special note of anyone who does not obey our instruction in this letter. Do not associate with them, in order that they may feel ashamed. | 14And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. |
Yet do not regard them as an enemy, but warn them as you would a fellow believer. | 15Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. |
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. | 16Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all. |
I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand, which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write. | 17The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write. |
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. | 18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. |
