| 1Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. | 1Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. |
| 2Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. | 2Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. |
| 3Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. | 3Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure! |
| 4Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. | 4Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. |
| 5You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. | 5You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. |
| 6You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you. | 6You have condemned and put to death the righteous man; he does not resist you. |
| 7Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. | 7Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains. |

| 11As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. | 11We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord's dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful. |
| 12Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple "Yes" or "No." Otherwise you will be condemned. | 12But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment. |
| 13Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. | 13Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises. |

| 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. | 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
