A Song. A Psalm of Asaph. Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! | 1A song. A Psalm of Asaph. O God, be not silent; be not speechless; be not still, O God. |
For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. | 2See how Your enemies rage, how Your foes have reared their heads. |
They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. | 3With cunning they scheme against Your people and conspire against those You cherish, |
They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” | 4saying, “Come, let us erase them as a nation; may the name of Israel be remembered no more.” |
For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You: | 5For with one mind they plot together, they form an alliance against You— |
The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites; | 6the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, |
Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; | 7of Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, of Philistia with the people of Tyre. |
Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. Selah | 8Even Assyria has joined them, lending strength to the sons of Lot. Selah |
Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon, | 9Do to them as You did to Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at the River Kishon, |
Who perished at En Dor, Who became as refuse on the earth. | 10who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground. |
Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb, Yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, | 11Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, |
Who said, “Let us take for ourselves The pastures of God for a possession.” | 12who said, “Let us possess for ourselves the pastures of God.” |
O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like the chaff before the wind! | 13Make them like tumbleweed, O my God, like chaff before the wind. |
As the fire burns the woods, And as the flame sets the mountains on fire, | 14As fire consumes a forest, as a flame sets the mountains ablaze, |
So pursue them with Your tempest, And frighten them with Your storm. | 15so pursue them with Your tempest, and terrify them with Your storm. |
Fill their faces with shame, That they may seek Your name, O LORD. | 16Cover their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD. |
Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; Yes, let them be put to shame and perish, | 17May they be ever ashamed and terrified; may they perish in disgrace. |
That they may know that You, whose name alone is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth. | 18May they know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, are Most High over all the earth. |
