Now the apostles and brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.1The apostles and the brothers and sisters who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.
And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision contended with him,2When Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party criticized him,
saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”3saying, "You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them."
But Peter explained it to them in order from the beginning, saying:4Peter began to explain to them step by step:
“I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object descending like a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came to me.5"I was in the town of Joppa praying, and I saw, in a trance, an object that resembled a large sheet coming down, being lowered by its four corners from heaven, and it came to me.
When I observed it intently and considered, I saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air.6When I looked closely and considered it, I saw the four-footed animals of the earth, the wild beasts, the reptiles, and the birds of the sky.
And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’7I also heard a voice telling me, 'Get up, Peter; kill and eat.'
But I said, ‘Not so, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has at any time entered my mouth.’8"'No, Lord!' I said. 'For nothing impure or ritually unclean has ever entered my mouth.'
But the voice answered me again from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed you must not call common.’9But a voice answered from heaven a second time, 'What God has made clean, you must not call impure.'
Now this was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven.10"Now this happened three times, and everything was drawn up again into heaven.
At that very moment, three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea.11At that very moment, three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea arrived at the house where we were.
Then the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house.12The Spirit told me to accompany them with no doubts at all. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we went into the man's house.
And he told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house, who said to him, ‘Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon whose surname is Peter,13He reported to us how he had seen the angel standing in his house and saying, 'Send to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is also named Peter.
who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved.’14He will speak a message to you by which you and all your household will be saved.'
And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning.15"As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came down on them, just as on us at the beginning.
Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’16I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'
If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?”17If, then, God gave them the same gift that he also gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, how could I possibly hinder God?"
When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”18When they heard this they became silent. And they glorified God, saying, "So then, God has given repentance resulting in life even to the Gentiles."
Now those who were scattered after the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to no one but the Jews only.19Now those who had been scattered as a result of the persecution that started because of Stephen made their way as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews.
But some of them were men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.20But there were some of them, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks also, proclaiming the good news about the Lord Jesus.
And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.21The Lord's hand was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord.
Then news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch.22News about them reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to travel as far as Antioch.
When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord.23When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged all of them to remain true to the Lord with devoted hearts,
For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.24for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And large numbers of people were added to the Lord.
Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul.25Then he went to Tarsus to search for Saul,
And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.26and when he found him he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught large numbers. The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch.
And in these days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch.27In those days some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.
Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar.28One of them, named Agabus, stood up and predicted by the Spirit that there would be a severe famine throughout the Roman world. This took place during the reign of Claudius.
Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea.29Each of the disciples, according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brothers and sisters who lived in Judea.
This they also did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.30They did this, sending it to the elders by means of Barnabas and Saul.
