Paul came to them,
So, because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and worked; for by occupation they were tentmakers.3and being of the same occupation, stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade.
And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.4He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath and tried to persuade both Jews and Greeks.
When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ.5When Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with preaching the message and solemnly testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah.
But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said to them, “Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”6But when they resisted and blasphemed, he shook his robe and told them, "Your blood is on your own heads! I am innocent. From now on I will go to the Gentiles."
And he departed from there and entered the house of a certain man named Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue.7So he left there and went to the house of a man named Titius Justus, a worshiper of God, whose house was next door to the synagogue.
Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. And many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.8Crispus, the leader of the synagogue, believed the Lord, along with his whole household. Many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were baptized.
Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent;9Then the Lord said to Paul in a night vision, "Don't be afraid, but keep on speaking and don't be silent.
for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city.”10For I am with you, and no one will lay a hand on you to hurt you, because I have many people in this city."
And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.11And he stayed there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
When Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him to the judgment seat,12While Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack against Paul and brought him to the judge's bench."
saying, “This fellow persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.”13This man," they said, "persuades people to worship God contrary to the law!"
And when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of wrongdoing or wicked crimes, O Jews, there would be reason why I should bear with you.14As Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If it were a matter of a crime or of moral evil, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you Jews.
But if it is a question of words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves; for I do not want to be a judge of such matters.15But if these are questions about words, names, and your own law, see to it yourselves. I don't want to be a judge of such things."
And he drove them from the judgment seat.16So he drove them from the judge's bench.
Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. But Gallio took no notice of these things.17Then they all seized Sosthenes, the leader of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the judge's bench. But none of these things concerned Gallio.
So Paul still remained a good while. Then he took leave of the brethren and sailed for Syria, and Priscilla and Aquila were with him. He had his hair cut off at Cenchrea, for he had taken a vow.18So Paul, having stayed on for many days, said good-bye to the brothers and sailed away to Syria. Priscilla and Aquila were with him. He shaved his head at Cenchreae because he had taken a vow.
And he came to Ephesus, and left them there; but he himself entered the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.19When they reached Ephesus he left them there, but he himself entered the synagogue and engaged in discussion with the Jews.
When they asked him to stay a longer time with them, he did not consent,20And though they asked him to stay for a longer time, he declined,
but took leave of them, saying, “I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem; but I will return again to you, God willing.” And he sailed from Ephesus.21but he said good-bye and stated, "I'll come back to you again, if God wills." Then he set sail from Ephesus.
And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up and greeted the church, he went down to Antioch.22On landing at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the church and went down to Antioch.
After he had spent some time there, he departed and went over the region of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.23And after spending some time there, he set out, traveling through one place after another in the Galatian territory and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.
Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus.24A Jew named Apollos, a native Alexandrian, an eloquent man who was powerful in the use of the Scriptures, arrived in Ephesus.
This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John.25This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught the things about Jesus accurately, although he knew only John's baptism.
So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.26He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. After Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him home and explained the way of God to him more accurately.
And when he desired to cross to Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him; and when he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace;27When he wanted to cross over to Achaia, the brothers wrote to the disciples urging them to welcome him. After he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace.
for he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.28For he vigorously refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating through the Scriptures that Jesus is the Messiah.
