New King James Version | New Living Translation |
To the Chief Musician. Set to “Lily of the Testimony.” A Michtam of David. For teaching. When he fought against Mesopotamia and Syria of Zobah, and Joab returned and killed twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt. O God, You have cast us off; You have broken us down; You have been displeased; Oh, restore us again! | 1You have rejected us, O God, and broken our defenses. You have been angry with us; now restore us to your favor. |
You have made the earth tremble; You have broken it; Heal its breaches, for it is shaking. | 2You have shaken our land and split it open. Seal the cracks, for the land trembles. |
You have shown Your people hard things; You have made us drink the wine of confusion. | 3You have been very hard on us, making us drink wine that sent us reeling. |
You have given a banner to those who fear You, That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah | 4But you have raised a banner for those who fear you— a rallying point in the face of attack. Interlude |
That Your beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and hear me. | 5Now rescue your beloved people. Answer and save us by your power. |
God has spoken in His holiness: “I will rejoice; I will divide Shechem And measure out the Valley of Succoth. | 6God has promised this by his holiness : “I will divide up Shechem with joy. I will measure out the valley of Succoth. |
Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is the helmet for My head; Judah is My lawgiver. | 7Gilead is mine, and Manasseh, too. Ephraim, my helmet, will produce my warriors, and Judah, my scepter, will produce my kings. |
Moab is My washpot; Over Edom I will cast My shoe; Philistia, shout in triumph because of Me.” | 8But Moab, my washbasin, will become my servant, and I will wipe my feet on Edom and shout in triumph over Philistia.” |
Who will bring me to the strong city? Who will lead me to Edom? | 9Who will bring me into the fortified city? Who will bring me victory over Edom? |
Is it not You, O God, who cast us off? And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies? | 10Have you rejected us, O God? Will you no longer march with our armies? |
Give us help from trouble, For the help of man is useless. | 11Oh, please help us against our enemies, for all human help is useless. |
Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies. | 12With God’s help we will do mighty things, for he will trample down our foes. |
