“In the future, when you experience all these blessings and curses I have listed for you, and when you are living among the nations to which the LORD your God has exiled you, take to heart all these instructions.1“When all these things come upon you—the blessings and curses I have set before you—and you call them to mind in all the nations to which the LORD your God has banished you,
If at that time you and your children return to the LORD your God, and if you obey with all your heart and all your soul all the commands I have given you today,2and when you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey His voice with all your heart and all your soul according to everything I am giving you today,
then the LORD your God will restore your fortunes. He will have mercy on you and gather you back from all the nations where he has scattered you.3then He will restore you from captivity and have compassion on you and gather you from all the nations to which the LORD your God has scattered you.
Even though you are banished to the ends of the earth, the LORD your God will gather you from there and bring you back again.4Even if you have been banished to the farthest horizon, He will gather you and return you from there.
The LORD your God will return you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will possess that land again. Then he will make you even more prosperous and numerous than your ancestors!5And the LORD your God will bring you into the land your fathers possessed, and you will take possession of it. He will cause you to prosper and multiply more than your fathers.
“The LORD your God will change your heart and the hearts of all your descendants, so that you will love him with all your heart and soul and so you may live!6The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, and you will love Him with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.
The LORD your God will inflict all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate and persecute you.7Then the LORD your God will put all these curses upon your enemies who hate you and persecute you.
Then you will again obey the LORD and keep all his commands that I am giving you today.8And you will again obey the voice of the LORD and follow all His commandments I am giving you today.
“The LORD your God will then make you successful in everything you do. He will give you many children and numerous livestock, and he will cause your fields to produce abundant harvests, for the LORD will again delight in being good to you as he was to your ancestors.9So the LORD your God will make you abound in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your land. Indeed, the LORD will again delight in your goodness, as He delighted in that of your fathers,
The LORD your God will delight in you if you obey his voice and keep the commands and decrees written in this Book of Instruction, and if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul. The Choice of Life or Death10if you obey the LORD your God by keeping His commandments and statutes that are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
“This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, and it is not beyond your reach.11For this commandment I give you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach.
It is not kept in heaven, so distant that you must ask, ‘Who will go up to heaven and bring it down so we can hear it and obey?’12It is not in heaven, that you should need to ask, ‘Who will ascend into heaven to get it for us and proclaim it, that we may obey it?’
It is not kept beyond the sea, so far away that you must ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to bring it to us so we can hear it and obey?’13And it is not beyond the sea, that you should need to ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to get it for us and proclaim it, that we may obey it?’
No, the message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart so that you can obey it.14But the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you may obey it.
“Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster.15See, I have set before you today life and goodness, as well as death and disaster.
For I command you this day to love the LORD your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy.16For I am commanding you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and increase, and the LORD your God may bless you in the land that you are entering to possess.
“But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are drawn away to serve and worship other gods,17But if your heart turns away and you do not listen, but are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them,
then I warn you now that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live a long, good life in the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy.18I declare to you today that you will surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.
“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!19I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, so that you and your descendants may live,
You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”20and that you may love the LORD your God, obey Him, and hold fast to Him. For He is your life, and He will prolong your life in the land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
