New Living Translation | Berean Study Bible |
Help, O LORD, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth! | 1For the choirmaster. According to Sheminith. A Psalm of David. Help, O LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. |
Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts. | 2They lie to one another; they speak with flattering lips and a double heart. |
May the LORD cut off their flattering lips and silence their boastful tongues. | 3May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue. |
They say, “We will lie to our hearts’ content. Our lips are our own—who can stop us?” | 4They say, “With our tongues we will prevail. We own our lips—who can be our master?” |
The LORD replies, “I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do.” | 5“For the cause of the oppressed and for the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will bring safety to him who yearns.” |
The LORD’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. | 6The words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace, like gold purified sevenfold. |
Therefore, LORD, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, | 7You, O LORD, will keep us; You will forever guard us from this generation. |
even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land. | 8The wicked wander freely, and vileness is exalted among men. |
