| 1Help, O LORD, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth! | 1Save, O LORD, for the godly one is gone; for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man. |
| 2Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts. | 2Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. |
| 3May the LORD cut off their flattering lips and silence their boastful tongues. | 3May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts, |
| 4They say, “We will lie to our hearts’ content. Our lips are our own—who can stop us?” | 4those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are with us; who is master over us?” |
| 5The LORD replies, “I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor.
