| 1O LORD, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent, | 1For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men. Protect me from men of violence, |
| 2those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long. | 2who devise evil in their hearts and stir up war all day long. |
| 3Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips. Interlude | 3They sharpen their tongues like snakes; the venom of vipers is on their lips. Selah |
| 4O LORD, keep me out of the hands of the wicked. Protect me from those who are violent, for they are plotting against me. | 4Guard me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked. Keep me safe from men of violence who scheme to make me stumble. |
| 5The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. Interlude | 5The proud hide a snare for me; the cords of their net are spread along the path, and lures are set out for me. Selah |
| 6I said to the LORD, “You are my God!” Listen, O LORD, to my cries for mercy! | 6I say to the LORD, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for help. |

| 8LORD, do not let evil people have their way. Do not let their evil schemes succeed, or they will become proud. Interlude | 8Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; do not promote their evil plans, lest they be exalted. Selah |
| 9Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me. | 9May the heads of those who surround me be covered in the trouble their lips have caused. |
| 10Let burning coals fall down on their heads. Let them be thrown into the fire or into watery pits from which they can’t escape. | 10May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into the miry pits, never to rise again. |
| 11Don’t let liars prosper here in our land. Cause great disasters to fall on the violent. | 11May no slanderer be established in the land; may calamity hunt down the man of violence. |
| 12But I know the LORD will help those they persecute; he will give justice to the poor. | 12I know that the LORD upholds justice for the poor and defends the cause of the needy. |
| 13Surely righteous people are praising your name; the godly will live in your presence. | 13Surely the righteous will praise Your name; the upright will dwell in Your presence. |
