New Living Translation | New American Standard Bible 1995 |
O LORD, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent, | 1For the choir director. A Psalm of David. Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; Preserve me from violent men |
those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long. | 2Who devise evil things in their hearts; They continually stir up wars. |
Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips. Interlude | 3They sharpen their tongues as a serpent; Poison of a viper is under their lips. Selah. |
O LORD, keep me out of the hands of the wicked. Protect me from those who are violent, for they are plotting against me. | 4Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from violent men Who have purposed to trip up my feet. |
The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. Interlude | 5The proud have hidden a trap for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set snares for me. Selah. |
I said to the LORD, “You are my God!” Listen, O LORD, to my cries for mercy! | 6I said to the LORD, "You are my God; Give ear, O LORD, to the voice of my supplications. |
O Sovereign LORD, the strong one who rescued me, you protected me on the day of battle. | 7"O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle. |
LORD, do not let evil people have their way. Do not let their evil schemes succeed, or they will become proud. Interlude | 8"Do not grant, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; Do not promote his evil device, that they not be exalted. Selah. |
Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me. | 9"As for the head of those who surround me, May the mischief of their lips cover them. |
Let burning coals fall down on their heads. Let them be thrown into the fire or into watery pits from which they can’t escape. | 10"May burning coals fall upon them; May they be cast into the fire, Into deep pits from which they cannot rise. |
Don’t let liars prosper here in our land. Cause great disasters to fall on the violent. | 11"May a slanderer not be established in the earth; May evil hunt the violent man speedily." |
But I know the LORD will help those they persecute; he will give justice to the poor. | 12I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted And justice for the poor. |
Surely righteous people are praising your name; the godly will live in your presence. | 13Surely the righteous will give thanks to Your name; The upright will dwell in Your presence. |
