Psalm 42
NLT Parallel BSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationBerean Study Bible
1As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.1For the choirmaster. A Maskil of the sons of Korah. As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul longs after You, O God.
2I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?2My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When shall I come and appear in God’s presence?
3Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?”3My tears have been my food both day and night, while men ask me all day long, “Where is your God?”
4My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!4These things come to mind as I pour out my soul: how I walked with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God with shouts of joy and praise.
5Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and5Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why the unease within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him for the salvation of His presence.
6my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you— even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar.6O my God, my soul despairs within me. Therefore I remember You from the land of Jordan and the peaks of Hermon—even from Mount Mizar.
7I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.7Deep calls to deep in the roar of Your waterfalls; all Your breakers and waves have rolled over me.
8But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.8The LORD decrees His loving devotion by day, and at night His song is with me as a prayer to the God of my life.
9“O God my rock,” I cry, “why have you forgotten me? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?”9I say to God my Rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why must I walk in sorrow because of the enemy’s oppression?”
10Their taunts break my bones. They scoff, “Where is this God of yours?”10Like the crushing of my bones, my enemies taunt me, while they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
11Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!11Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why the unease within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.
