New Living TranslationBerean Study Bible
Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The LORD rescues them when they are in trouble.1For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Blessed is the one who cares for the poor; the LORD will deliver him in the day of trouble.
The LORD protects them and keeps them alive. He gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies.2The LORD will protect and preserve him; He will bless him in the land and refuse to surrender him to the will of his foes.
The LORD nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health.3The LORD will sustain him on his bed of illness and restore him from his bed of sickness.
“O LORD,” I prayed, “have mercy on me. Heal me, for I have sinned against you.”4I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against You.”
But my enemies say nothing but evil about me. “How soon will he die and be forgotten?” they ask.5My enemies say with malice: “When will he die and be forgotten?”
They visit me as if they were my friends, but all the while they gather gossip, and when they leave, they spread it everywhere.6My visitor speaks falsehood; he gathers slander in his heart; he goes out and spreads it abroad.
All who hate me whisper about me, imagining the worst.7All who hate me whisper against me; they imagine the worst for me:
“He has some fatal disease,” they say. “He will never get out of that bed!”8“A vile disease has been poured into him; he will never get up from where he lies!”
Even my best friend, the one I trusted completely, the one who shared my food, has turned against me.9Even my close friend whom I trusted, the one who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.
LORD, have mercy on me. Make me well again, so I can pay them back!10But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, that I may repay them.
I know you are pleased with me, for you have not let my enemies triumph over me.11By this I know that You delight in me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
You have preserved my life because I am innocent; you have brought me into your presence forever.12In my integrity You uphold me and set me in Your presence forever.
Praise the LORD, the God of Israel, who lives from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and amen!13Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
