This is what the LORD says: “The people of Moab have sinned again and again, and I will not let them go unpunished! They desecrated the bones of Edom’s king, burning them to ashes.1This is what the LORD says: "For three transgressions of Moab because they cremated the bones of the king of Edom, burning them to lime.
So I will send down fire on the land of Moab, and all the fortresses in Kerioth will be destroyed. The people will fall in the noise of battle, as the warriors shout and the ram’s horn sounds.2So I will send down fire upon Moab, and it will devour the fortified citadels of Kerioth. Moab will die in the uproar of battle, with a war cry and with the trumpeting of the ram's horn.
And I will destroy their king and slaughter all their princes,” says the LORD. God’s Judgment on Judah and Israel3I will execute their rulers among them, killing all of their officials as well," says the LORD.
This is what the LORD says: “The people of Judah have sinned again and again, and I will not let them go unpunished! They have rejected the instruction of the LORD, refusing to obey his decrees. They have been led astray by the same lies that deceived their ancestors.4This is what the LORD says: "For three transgressions of Judah —and now for a fourth— I will not turn away; because they rejected the Law of the LORD and did not keep his statutes. Their own lies made them wander off, following along the same path their ancestors walked.
So I will send down fire on Judah, and all the fortresses of Jerusalem will be destroyed.”5So I will send down fire upon Judah, and it will devour the fortified citadels of Jerusalem."
This is what the LORD says: “The people of Israel have sinned again and again, and I will not let them go unpunished! They sell honorable people for silver and poor people for a pair of sandals.6This is what the LORD says: "For three transgressions of Israel —and now for a fourth— I will not turn away; because they sold the righteous for money, and the poor for sandals,
They trample helpless people in the dust and shove the oppressed out of the way. Both father and son sleep with the same woman, corrupting my holy name.7moving quickly to rub the face of the needy in the dirt. Corrupting the ways of the humble, a man and his father go to the same woman, deliberately defiling my holy name.
At their religious festivals, they lounge in clothing their debtors put up as security. In the house of their gods, they drink wine bought with unjust fines.8They lay down beside every altar, on garments pledged as collateral, drinking wine paid for through fines imposed by the temple of their gods.
“But as my people watched, I destroyed the Amorites, though they were as tall as cedars and as strong as oaks. I destroyed the fruit on their branches and dug out their roots.9Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorites in front of them, though their height seemed like a cedar, though their strength seemed like an oak, but whose fruit I destroyed from above and the roots from beneath.
It was I who rescued you from Egypt and led you through the desert for forty years, so you could possess the land of the Amorites.10Furthermore, I brought you up from the land of Egypt, leading you in the wilderness for 40 years, to take possession of the land of the Amorites.
I chose some of your sons to be prophets and others to be Nazirites. Can you deny this, my people of Israel?” asks the LORD.11I also raised up your sons to be prophets, and from your young men I raised up Nazirites. Is this not true, people of Israel?" declares the LORD.
“But you caused the Nazirites to sin by making them drink wine, and you commanded the prophets, ‘Shut up!’12"But you forced the Nazirites to drink wine, and commanded the prophets, 'You are not to prophesy!'
“So I will make you groan like a wagon loaded down with sheaves of grain.13"Oh, how I am burdened down with you, as a wagon is overloaded with harvested grain!
Your fastest runners will not get away. The strongest among you will become weak. Even mighty warriors will be unable to save themselves.14So the swift runner will not escape, the valiant will not fortify his strength, and the mighty warrior will not save his life.
The archers will not stand their ground. The swiftest runners won’t be fast enough to escape. Even those riding horses won’t be able to save themselves.15The skilled archer will not be able to stand, the swift runner will not survive, and the mounted rider will not preserve his own life.
On that day the most courageous of your fighting men will drop their weapons and run for their lives,” says the LORD.16Even the bravest of elite troops will run away naked at that time," declares the LORD.
