New Living Translation | King James Bible |
Praise the LORD! How good to sing praises to our God! How delightful and how fitting! | 1Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. |
The LORD is rebuilding Jerusalem and bringing the exiles back to Israel. | 2The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel. |
He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. | 3He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. |
He counts the stars and calls them all by name. | 4He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. |
How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension! | 5Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. |
The LORD supports the humble, but he brings the wicked down into the dust. | 6The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground. |
Sing out your thanks to the LORD; sing praises to our God with a harp. | 7Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: |
He covers the heavens with clouds, provides rain for the earth, and makes the grass grow in mountain pastures. | 8Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains. |
He gives food to the wild animals and feeds the young ravens when they cry. | 9He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry. |
He takes no pleasure in the strength of a horse or in human might. | 10He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. |
No, the LORD’s delight is in those who fear him, those who put their hope in his unfailing love. | 11The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. |
Glorify the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! | 12Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion. |
For he has strengthened the bars of your gates and blessed your children within your walls. | 13For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee. |
He sends peace across your nation and satisfies your hunger with the finest wheat. | 14He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat. |
He sends his orders to the world— how swiftly his word flies! | 15He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly. |
He sends the snow like white wool; he scatters frost upon the ground like ashes. | 16He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes. |
He hurls the hail like stones. Who can stand against his freezing cold? | 17He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold? |
Then, at his command, it all melts. He sends his winds, and the ice thaws. | 18He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow. |
He has revealed his words to Jacob, his decrees and regulations to Israel. | 19He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. |
He has not done this for any other nation; they do not know his regulations. Praise the LORD! | 20He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD. |
