Psalm 76
New Living TranslationNew American Standard Bible 1995
God is honored in Judah; his name is great in Israel.1For the choir director; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph, a Song. God is known in Judah; His name is great in Israel.
Jerusalem is where he lives; Mount Zion is his home.2His tabernacle is in Salem; His dwelling place also is in Zion.
There he has broken the fiery arrows of the enemy, the shields and swords and weapons of war. Interlude3There He broke the flaming arrows, The shield and the sword and the weapons of war. Selah.
You are glorious and more majestic than the everlasting mountains.4You are resplendent, More majestic than the mountains of prey.
Our boldest enemies have been plundered. They lie before us in the sleep of death. No warrior could lift a hand against us.5The stouthearted were plundered, They sank into sleep; And none of the warriors could use his hands.
At the blast of your breath, O God of Jacob, their horses and chariots lay still.6At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob, Both rider and horse were cast into a dead sleep.
No wonder you are greatly feared! Who can stand before you when your anger explodes?7You, even You, are to be feared; And who may stand in Your presence when once You are angry?
From heaven you sentenced your enemies; the earth trembled and stood silent before you.8You caused judgment to be heard from heaven; The earth feared and was still
You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God, and to rescue the oppressed of the earth. Interlude9When God arose to judgment, To save all the humble of the earth. Selah.
Human defiance only enhances your glory, for you use it as a weapon.10For the wrath of man shall praise You; With a remnant of wrath You will gird Yourself.
Make vows to the LORD your God, and keep them. Let everyone bring tribute to the Awesome One.11Make vows to the LORD your God and fulfill them; Let all who are around Him bring gifts to Him who is to be feared.
For he breaks the pride of princes, and the kings of the earth fear him.12He will cut off the spirit of princes; He is feared by the kings of the earth.
