Psalm 76
New Living TranslationNET Bible
God is honored in Judah; his name is great in Israel.1For the music director; to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm of Asaph, a song. God has revealed himself in Judah; in Israel his reputation is great.
Jerusalem is where he lives; Mount Zion is his home.2He lives in Salem; he dwells in Zion.
There he has broken the fiery arrows of the enemy, the shields and swords and weapons of war. Interlude3There he shattered the arrows, the shield, the sword, and the rest of the weapons of war. (Selah)
You are glorious and more majestic than the everlasting mountains.4You shine brightly and reveal your majesty, as you descend from the hills where you killed your prey.
Our boldest enemies have been plundered. They lie before us in the sleep of death. No warrior could lift a hand against us.5The bravehearted were plundered; they "fell asleep." All the warriors were helpless.
At the blast of your breath, O God of Jacob, their horses and chariots lay still.6At the sound of your battle cry, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse "fell asleep."
No wonder you are greatly feared! Who can stand before you when your anger explodes?7You are awesome! Yes, you! Who can withstand your intense anger?
From heaven you sentenced your enemies; the earth trembled and stood silent before you.8From heaven you announced what their punishment would be. The earth was afraid and silent
You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God, and to rescue the oppressed of the earth. Interlude9when God arose to execute judgment, and to deliver all the oppressed of the earth. (Selah)
Human defiance only enhances your glory, for you use it as a weapon.10Certainly your angry judgment upon men will bring you praise; you reveal your anger in full measure.
Make vows to the LORD your God, and keep them. Let everyone bring tribute to the Awesome One.11Make vows to the LORD your God and repay them! Let all those who surround him bring tribute to the awesome one!
For he breaks the pride of princes, and the kings of the earth fear him.12He humbles princes; the kings of the earth regard him as awesome.
